A runaway Oregon teen was able to board a United Airlines flight to Chicago while using his mother's name and stolen credit card, officials say.

Dwayne Baird, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration, says 14-year-old Dakota Davis, of Oregon City, Ore., passed through a security checkpoint at Portland International Airport using only his mother's stolen credit card as identification, allegedly confirming to a screener his name was Virginia Davis, the name of the e-ticket, The (Portland) Oregonian reported.

"Part of the problem is that children at that age fly (alone) all the time, and there is no government-issued ID for a 14-year-old," Baird told the newspaper, noting that Dakota is 6-foot-2 and weighs about 200 pounds.

Baird said Chicago police met the boy at O'Hare International Airport when he arrived there Saturday.

Virginia Davis said her son has Asperger's syndrome, resulting in poor social skills, and that his trip had been "manipulated" by someone purporting to be a Chicago girl, who exchanged thousands of text messages with him.

"But this could be an adult man, for all I know," Davis told the Oregonian.
