One of the reasons I never understood why the Panthers never put a lot of emphasis on their safeties or spent high draft picks on them.

It seems like in recent years, most of the Super Bowl winners have good to great safeties controlling the defense. I'd love to see the Panthers select a safety higher in the draft. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we've selected a safety high in the draft since Mike Minter.

But they do like their smart veterans.  There are drawbacks but if you have a complex defense it makes some sense. They want them to be intelligent.

I think maybe a fourth rounder has been our highest since. I could be wrong.

Yep. What I would like are vets still in their prime more than old guys with one or two years left who are cheaper because they lost a step. I was happy we picked up Adams but he is not a long term solution. Just one more in a series of stop gap players who are here on a 2 year contract.
