Did you have a team that was your favorite and decide to move your loyalties to the Panthers? If so that makes you as worthless as a Cowboys fan. If you are going to be a fan be a fan and be loyal. Don't be a front runner.

regionalism is by far the best reason to cheer for a team.

who in the world would cheer for an expansion team in 1995 and be called a front runner. "WooHoo we did it 7-9 yay top of the world"

But if you were a fan of another team and jumped ship you are being wishy-washy.

Sorry, but living in the region is the #1 reason to root for a team. I'm a Panther fan because I live here. I don't believe in being that guy who lived in Pittsburgh for 6 months, 27 years ago that is the ultimate Steelers fan right now.

We get plenty of those in Charlotte, so I don't really think you can blame us for being die-hard home town fans.

I just think it is lame when people jump ship. Diverting your loyalty is the opposite of being a true fan of any team.

im totally confused, so going by that logic, the nfl should have never expanded beyond it's first teams, and everyone who decided to become a fan of a NEW LOCAL TEAM are bandwagoners (Redskins included)?

you know what's funny about that...

we have a lot of people on here who were NFL fans before Carolina and rooted for the Redskins or Cowboys or whoever, and gave up their allegiance to support the rally for a team in the Carolinas, and the minute somebody expresses dissatisfaction in performance or whoever, which is understandable at times, they pipe up and call them out on their fandom. I personally think such is a waste of fuging time and whoever does call anybody out embarrasses themselves in the process, but it's a trip seeing people question others' allegiances when they did the same thing themselves 15 years ago, which, I'm not saying is a bad thing because it required a collective effort of public backing for this to happen, but at that point, don't call people out and talk about how they're fake fans because that's just stupid.

I was so glad when we got a team here in the Carolina's. I was an instant fan. I was a 49er fan before the Panthers. And I stayed that way even when we were in the same division. But when the 9ers and Panthers played, I was a Panther fan. I only said to hell with the 49ers when they fired Mooch, cuz the new owner said he wasn't their guy. Even though he won 10 games every year. That's when I knew it was over for me and the 49ers. I tried to be a true fan of two teams and it tore me apart. I have a secondary team in the Steelers, but I don't have any paraphernalia of theirs. No hats jerseys shirts stickers nothing! I am a true Panther fan, and I always will be. Unless Winston Salem gets a team....I don't think I have anything to worry about there.

Only the NFL wasn't the phenomena that it is today when the league first started. A lot of people didn't know about it, had never heard or football, etc so their loyalties were never with a team.

I have never had and will never have any loyalties to any football team other than the Washington Redskins. True fandom lies in loyalty. Although I will say my second favorite team on Sundays is whoever is playing Dallas.

Like I said ever since I was old enough to know what a football was I have been a Washington Redskins fan. I have never wavered in my fandom of the Redskins and never will.

i'Mleast,

some genie didn't cross her arms and blink, then <poof>, Panther Fans appeared. They came from somewhere and yes, many used to cheer for the skins, including myself. I road-tripped to Tampa for the SB against the Raiders, too poor for tickets but I did manage to get in a bar fight with guy who tried to sell me that Plunkett was better than Theisman.

When the Panthers were announced I struggled with my decision, I'll give you that. But in my book it is the ultimate definition of "fan" to hitch your loyalties to the local expansion team and support them 100% than to try the old "second favorite" crap. Especially when I realized that the skins were force-fed to me since I was a kid. I was marketed/brainwashed into becoming a skin fan, I didn't chose them. I CHOSE to support the Panthers and drove to Clemson for the first game and haven't looked back.

I saw what Jerry Jones did to Landry. And I saw what Danny boy was getting ready to do to the skins. Then I saw Jerry Richardson, ex-player, business stalwart and all-around great guy. That made up for a lot of Tyrone Poole's. I'm a first-generation Panther fan and damn proud.

I fart in your general direction.

Folks, the bottom line is, the Panthers are a new team. It'll take a while for it to build a fanbase as big as other teams have. Once the older people start dying out, the fanbase will build with the younger generation. You can'T teach a dog new tricks. I didn't start following football until 1998.

With that having been said....GO PANTHERS!!

So were you born in 1995? If so you have an excuse for being a Panthers fan.

Had you not discovered football until 1995? I can possibly understand if you were 2 or 3 years of age at the time otherwise WTF.

For the guy that is living in North Carolina and still a Redskins fan good for him. That guy apparently knows what loyalty and fandom is about. You stick with your team through the good times, in the bad, and whether or not someone moves a football franchise into your backyard.

HTTR

I'm not sure why I'm bothering to respond to this - but Skins fans seem to be a little slow, so I'll try and keep it simple for you:

I live in the Carolinas + Panthers are in the Carolinas + I believe in rooting for the home team = I root for the Panthers.

Not sure how continuing to root for a team from another area when they put a team right in your back yard is considered loyalty?

It's a good thing all the British settlers that came here didn't continue to be loyal to England or we'd all be sipping tea and eating crumpets. LOL

Well said, I didn't choose the Skins they were chosen for me. As an adult, I chose the Panthers because they're my home team.

Its not often I take up for our fans but this is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard. Most people have no choice but to root for another team because they dont have one in their own market to root for. Im sure if they all had a home team of their own all along they would be rooting for them instead. So I guess you're saying all the newer teams over the last 30-40 years are all bandwagon fans since they decided to switch to their new home town team when they finally got one. Really that makes no sense. If someone was living in some randon state like North Dakota and was a redskins fan then suddenly switched allegences to another team then you would have a point. But switching allegences when your home city/state gets a team of their own is totally different. Like I said, I think our fan base sucks and everyone here knows thats how I feel. But you couldnt be anymore wrong with that statement.

    • Current draft order NYG, NE, JAX, TN, CLE, LV, CAR. We need to ask ourselves "what is the biggest need of those teams heading into the draft"? And, "What positions do we know are not major needs for the teams above?" JAX is terrible, but we know they won't be drafting a QB. The Patriots won't be either. The Raiders and Giants definitely need a QB. The Browns have one under contract, but he's been terrible since they signed him. I could see all 3 of them eyeing QB's. Hunter is a wild card. He could be the first player taken. Or, he could slip because some teams may not want to deal with his insistence on playing both ways. A team with a bad O-line may want to go LT TMAC is going to appeal to a team that needs a playmaker at WR. If CB is major need, I could see Will Thomas (or Hunter) coming off the board prior to our selection at #7. It's possible that Graham could fall into our laps. Then again we haven't factored FA into the equation. A lot of these teams will lure some players just because of the large amount of dollars they afford to play them and fix some needs before the draft. It's going to be an interesting off-season.
    • Sure, but despite being targeted less, he has more TDs than Odunze and more y/r than Nabers (and same number of TDs).  He's got a very similar y/r as Worthy.  He isn't stacking up that poorly to other WRs, but he has trailed off late - something that imo may indicate injury or needing to improve conditioning. He's not ever gonna be the best WR in this draft class, but he'll be in the top 3-5 with a bit of improvement imo.
    • Oh for sure. With Rod it’s never the defenses fault. I think someone posted this in Reddit a while back. Rod with the forwards. Rod with the defense.
