Apparently being put on the IR today before the final cut to the 53 DOES mean that players are OUT for the season.

I was really surprised to learn that because, as best as I can tell based on 2015 and 2016 transactions, that wasn't previously the case...

But ESPN's Field Yates, and Bill Voth both seemed pretty clear about this, so I need to admit I was VERY WRONG.

Well, that's something I didn't know. I guess it makes sense because teams could otherwise stash players in IR without exposing them to waivers and then bring back at most two back later in the season.

Thats what I was trying to tell you and @RoaringRiot and you two ganged up on me and got me all flummoxed.

So very sorry.  I was wrong..., you were right.  I repent!

The way the rules about the "designated to return" status are written it sounded as if ANY player on the team's IR was eligible to reactivated once they hit the 8 weeks mark...  I jumped to a wrong conclusion.  Will try not to do it again!

Not exactly like Beau Sandland, Tyler Gaffney, and Kenjon Barner have been lighting it up either. In fact, DG hasn't had a late round draft pick that has made it over a year on the Panthers. If you are going to make an argument against Hurney, there are certainly better ways than bringing up track records of 6th and 7th round picks. Last time I checked: Munnerlyn, Nortman, Hardy, McClain (Robert), Schwartz, Gaines, Haye (Jovan), Berger (Joe), Montgomery (Will), and Bernadeau all have had successful careers as late round picks.

I was being kind.

Hurney has had entire drafts wash out except for the first rounder, and some years he didn't even have those because he'd traded them away.

If you really wanna make a case for Hurney as a good drafter, you're gonna be arguing with history (and losing).

And some of those "successful careers" you're citing didn't come with the Panthers, so...

I never said he was, but I also didn't inaccurately paint him as a poor late round drafter when history says he's probably average in the 6th and 7th rounds.

Not making an argument for Hurney, just pointing out that yours was inaccurate.

I've done an analysis of pretty much every draft Hurney ran. It ain't pretty, especially when you look at who he chose vs who was available.

And calling the careers of guys like Robert McClain, Michael Gaines and Mackenzy Bernadeau "successful" is pretty amusing.

The sad thing is that CPK is back spreading his ignorance and bias around. But the retired racist hasn't been seen... Strange how that works

1. I didn't make the inaccurate comment about Hurney being a poor late round drafter, that was you. So the analysis you have done means nothing to me when I never said Hurney was a good drafter to begin with. I simply pointed out that your comment was inaccurate as it was clearly used to subtlety insinuate that DG was better.

2. When the average NFL career length is 3 years and as a 7th round pick you are on a team or have a roster spot for over 3 years, then yes, you've had a successful career.

If you say so...
