Stop Ace.. until Igo makes a way back thread finder.. These dudes will lie and act like they knew all along..

When in reality this board had a complete meltdown when we drafted Cam and not Gabbert.. And when we drafted Luke..

I'll be a man about my mistakes in judgement...

I was pissed we took Luke over Fletcher Cox and that night i was cussing on this site just like many others.. And it was worse when Cam was drafted.

actually the board was pretty well mixed about cam and luke.

the 2011 draft was kind of all over the place. probably half were sold on cam and the other half went a lot of different directions. we had some that liked yogabba gabbert (i was absolutely not one of those. had jimmy's happy feet and i had enough of that the year before). quite a few liked von miller. more than that liked marcel dareus. surprisingly there wasn't a lot of clamouring for locker, but i think he had been injured leading up to the draft or something like that. i do remember that most who didn't want us to go for cam didn't want us to go for any QB at all because we had just used an early pick on jimmy the year before (blech) and had matt moore hanging around as well (less blech). there were a few vet QBs available that people liked who thought we should go after instead of drafting another one early. one i remember was that backup for phillip rivers, billy volek (lol).

i think most on here were either completely sold on cam or completely sold against him, but most got on board with cam before too long. there were several who never got over it. most of those disappeared and only showed up when he struggled but were usually shouted down. then there was that "cam is a narcissist" joker. reminds me of another recent poster around here.

i was ecstatic, though. from the moment i saw him play the iron bowl i was sold. truthfully would have been good with either him or luck, but once luck fortunately decided to wait, i felt there was no one else but cam i wanted at #1.

the 2012 draft...i think the board was all over the place as well. people thought it was a wasted pick because we had beason. i didn't like him early on the the draft process, but i came around. he wasn't my first choice or really my second...i was thinking we should go after a big DT and my favorite i remember was michael brockers (:omg:) followed by dontari poe. but i thought that if luke was the pick, it wouldn't be horrible. i didn't think he'd be as good as he turned out to be, but i still thought it was a solid pick. getting beason's endorsement about luke being the safest pick in the draft over luck and rg3 helped sell me on him. lots of people had different wants, but no one was as heavily opinionated about it like they were with newton and he quickly turned everyone into fans so there might have been a minor meltdown, but it didn't last long.

I don't remember my view on the luke pick, but the Cam Newton pick I gave a B+ grade in the draft board on my breakdown. Remember saying good pick, team didn't over think it and took the right guy. My question was could the team build an offense around him with no camp really.
