I don't think it's a big deal. Here's why: You have to remember the roster spot that is being taken up is that of the worst non-kicker on the team. It's not like we get rid of a kicker and replace him with a stud-DT. It would likely be someone who rarely saw the field and then only on ST.

What position should it be? No sense in adding WR, when we don't even throw to our 3rd. The issue isn't that we need more back-ups, it's that we could use better ones. Would it really make that much of a difference to have an additional DT or DB that would be worse that all the ones we have already?

The problem is that we shouldn't have to depend so much on a kicker to kick touchbacks in the first place. What we really need is the next Carl Hankton.

The only problem I have with Lloyd taking the roster spot, is that we have no idea if he's good enough to be the next FG kicker or not.

The only memory I'll have of Kasey is kicking the ball out of bounds in the Super Bowl. One of the biggest choke jobs I've ever seen.

i too hate casey missed that one , but you might need to jog your memory the he has won us a lot of games that got us to the playoffs and the superbowl.

Hey Urrymonster, do you watch the Panthers play? He's had 10 chances and 6 were returned, his job is to kick it for a touchback a-hole. Then he can sit his ass down until its time for another kickoff. He's taking up a roster spot and cap space for doing what Kasay or Baker could do. If you did your job half the time would you still be employed? If he kicks the ball 4 yds deep into the endzone, then he's worth it. Otherwise he can join the rest of the non performers somewhere else. Oh BTW FU!!

You did not look at anything I actually wrote did you? Just saw it as someone attacking you and thus you gelt the compulsion to hit back regardless of the information.

Ok, so were you happy with his production last year? He led the league in TB's, so he must have been doing pretty well yeah? Well his production is actually better this year, with a higher % of TBs and a higher average. Now that last piece is telling. His average is OVER 70 yards. Which means he is consistently dropping it into the end zone YET some are still returned. That, genius, is the statistical proof that confirms what I have SEEN whilst watching the games. That is that returners are returning it from the end zone if he does not quite get enough hang time, as all teams know we simply can't tackle and our special team coverage units are useless.

His job is not to kick TBs, it is to do kickoff duties. He was hired because he has the biggest leg out there that can keep it consistently within bounds. That does not mean he is a lock for a TB every time. Things such as winds and low temperatures tend to have a say in these kind of things. Obviously you considered that though?

Simple fact is if you gave him the opportunities he had last year, following the stats, he would be doing better this year than last year. Then consider that he was the leagues best at kickoff duties, then he must be doing something right. If you are STILL not happy with that, then you must not be happy with last year and thus you are not happy at having the leagues best kickoff kicker.

Please actually read what I have written. It might help you open your eyes from the angry land you are currently in. Just admit you were wrong and we can move on. Like I said, you can want him cut because you do not believe in a kickoff specialist or because our offense is too incompetant to give him the chance to do his job. You simply can't want him cut for not kicking enough TBs. That is just crazy. The guy has an average that goes into the end zone. I mean come on!

EDIT

Just thought I would add a few stats to this non arguement

4th in KO average

4th in TB percentage

27th in KO attempts

29th in Avg return

So he is CONSISTENTLY putting it into the endzone, better than other people with a higher TB percentage but has not had the opportunities other kickers have had thus far, thus explaining his lower number of TBs. Due to our abysmal special teams unit they are returning them despite landing in the end zone. Would you really want Kasay kicking them, who last performed them in 2007 and average 60.5 yards with 2 TBs for the season. Smack on Lloyds return numbers to Kasays average and our opponents will be starting their possession from approximately the 40 yard line. Is that what you want?

Baker can kickoff?

Punting =/= Placekicking.

The only guy better at kicking off than Lloyd has been franchised by Atlanta, by the way.
