John Kasay was one of the best kickers the last 20 years. He messed up one kick in the Superbowl. He was always money aside from that.

Graham Gano literally cost us 3 games and the playoffs by himself last season. Literally by himself. Despite the teams woes if we had a half way decent kicker we would have had a winning season in 16.

I would think that this is the case.   I realize that giving someone a chance to play elsewhere isn't always a bad thing but he was ours for 2017 regardless.   

The only logical reason is that he played well enough to actually to be considered for a spot on the 53 man roster and the only way to bring him up is to waive him.  I would imagine the rules for the international player have rules that give that player a chance to go to the active roster but must be waived like any other player.

Otherwise, it makes no sense at all to cut a guy that was guaranteed a spot on your practice squad and didn't go against your allowable practice squad members.

Another thought that occurred to me.  Don't they have to be on the wire for 24 hrs before we can add them to the PS.  If this is true then right after the deadline for cuts has occurred we could add him the the PS.  True?

I think  your final comment is correct.  Waiving him to add him to the PS.  Seems a bit crazy as he was guaranteed a spot on our PS, and had been listed as being on our  PS since camp began, but it may be to make it official he has to be waived and added like any guy on the 90, even though he was guy #91.

I asked Max Henson via Twitter, he basically said that Obada can be picked up as a normal player or practice squad player by another team.  Hope it doesn't happen.  I like Obada!  Great story, shows promise.  

But if he clears waivers and Panthers keep him, he will be the special 11th PS guy for us, not eligible for promotion.   OTHER teams can add him to their roster, but for Panthers he is 11th PS guy or nothing.  Seems a bit weird, but that's what I'm understanding from Max and others.

From what Bill said he can't be promoted to an active roster for any team this year. But I'm definitely not 100% sure - just what he said.

That amazes me.  If he is developing than why let anyone else have him.   It would suck to see him go somewhere where he would come back an burn us.   Just the thought makes me cringe.

I could be wrong about other teams getting to sign him....  But Panthers.com seemed very clear on the point yesterday:

I had been hoping that by CUTTING him, we would be then eligible to sign him as a NORMAL PS guy like "any other team."  But apparently not... strange indeed.

The big drama today:

Kicker and punter--I say we go with youth.  Could there be a trade in the Cards to the Cards?  Maybe for a 7th rounder, Lee goes to the desert. 

Armah or Young

CAP  or Fozzy?  (I know many want both--not sure that happens because we do not need 4 RBs--are these the same people thinking we will also keep 2 fullbacks?  If so, let's just keep all the offensive backs and do away with fringe positions like guards)

Jacobs or Norris (Not a primary focus, but with Mayo and Cash, who is the next depth LB?

Who are we going to sign from other cuts? 

Gilbert?  Will they do the right thing and make room for him? (PS, maybe, but will he stick there?)

I am interested to see if Cox makes the PS. 

SURPRISES? 

I am going to make some long--shot predictions for fun:

• Anderson is cut (He sucked so badly--and has for 2 years--cut him, keep Gilbert, and use the Gano/Anderson savings on Star)
• The bigger news will come Sunday when we cut more players to sign a S, CB, and maybe a TE.
• Byrd makes the team---and Sheperd is cut.
