DA had a decent run but he played terrible last year and this preseason. Time to retire and count his money.

This, I support.  It's time for Anderson to hang it up, I don't think he should go anywhere, just stick around the organization, work with them.

Have said all offseason he is the best rookie prospect the Panthers have had in quite some time. Definitely should make the PS and replace Anderson next season.

He's not a rookie. He was drafted in 2014.

This is his 4th season and I am pretty sure he has used up his PS eligibility.

He throws a better ball than Anderson, actually goes through more than a single read and he looks like he gives a poo when he makes a bad play.  Derek Anderson has become comfortable and apathetic and has worn out his welcome here.  Kick rocks. Unfortunately, Rivera would never allow that to happen.

I thought he was a rookie too until I looked him up on wiki.  His father, Gale Gilbert, was a back up QB for the Bills and the Chargers.  He lost 5 Super Bowls in a row.  Ouch. Garret spends one season on Patriots practice squad and gets a Super Bowl ring.

I wish someone would create a "Practice Squad Rules for Dummies" handbook.  I have 2 masters degrees and I still can't follow them...

There is definitely a rule that no player can be on a practice squad more than 3 seasons.

What's tough to know with Garrett is that he was not on practice squads in 2014 & 2016 for entire seasons:

2014:

Signed to practice squad by St. Louis (9/1/14) Terminated from practice squad by St. Louis (10/28/14)...

Signed to practice squad by New England (12/17/14).

2015:

...Signed as a free agent by New England (2/5/15)...

Waived by New England (6/11/15)

Claimed off waivers by Detroit (6/12/15)...

...Waived by Detroit (8/31/15)

Signed to practice squad by Oakland (9/7/15)..

2016:

Signed as a free agent by Oakland (1/5/16)...

Waived by Oakland (5/24/16)...

..Signed to practice squad by Oakland (1/3/17)...

So, it looks like he had 1 full season on PS (Oakland 2016),  And then maybe the equivalent of another full season 2014 / 2016 combined.

I *THINK* that means he can be eligible a 3rd season as one of the 4 exemptions.

Eugene & Szoke mentioned that they thought he had PS eligibility last night during the radio broadcast.

been on the hype train...

He zips the ball like Delhomme and even Favre...

He has swag and takes hits in the pocket like it ain't nothing...

He makes good reads and pretty good decisions...

I am all in favor of Cam, Webb, and Gilbert making the active squad. DA, even though I love him, is done.

Hmmm.... just saw something on the SB nation Broncos blog about Practice Squad rules, which if true would indeed seem to mean that Gilbert is NOT eligible.  I give up trying to figure it out.  We'll just have to watch & see...

Effect of previous PS experience:

To determine the potential PS eligibility of former PS players, it is necessary to determine how many seasons of PS eligibility they have "burned through." For the first 2 seasons of PS eligibility, a player "burns through" a season of eligibility by being on a team's or multiple teams' PS for 6 or more regular and/or post-season games. For a third and final season of PS eligibility, a player only has to be on any team's PS roster for one regular or post-season game. If he gets released from a team's PS during that 3rd season, he can be re-signed to that team's or some other team's PS that season, but he won't be PS eligible in future seasons.

Gilbert definitely met the 6 games on PS for his 1st two seasons.

And was on the Raiders PS in 2016 for at least 1 game...  so, I'm thinking maybe he HAS burned through his PS eligibility.  Damn.
