Thanks man.  I plan on leaving if it comes to that.  Depending on when it turns and the likely path I have options in Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Daytona if necessary.

So GFS and US government have different predictions. GFS still says Irma will hit Miami and go back out to Atlantic and then re-enter as Cat 4 hitting Charleston and rolling thru Charlotte.  Government says Irma will hit North Florida and go thru Charlotte as depression.

The GFS is one model. The national hurricane center looks at an ensemble of models and makes a series of judgements prior to issuing a forecast.

That's why forecasters deal with percentages. none of the models are right or wrong. They are looked at in a group. One model might be a good predictor of a certain type of set up and it might be given more weight. Models guide the forecast, but models aren't a very good forecast by themselves.

I have seen multiple highly qualified meteorologists being called science deniers by laypeople this week on twitter. Emotions are running high.
