As I recall, Moose was considered incredibly mediocre during his first two seasons as well. His drop percentage was high and barely made an impact. Funchess is similar to Muhammad but more athletic. Give him an opportunity to actually develop.

Thus far, Shula, Cam and Devin himself have hindered his growth.

Also, people seem to forget that Funchess was a TE until his senior year in college and played with a crappy QB. He started off way behind, yet they still had him learning all three WR positions as a rookie.

Yep, Moose sucked his first two seasons.

Funchess had to suck it up and produce this year or it'll be his last season in Carolina.

What do you not understand about the concept of creating separation, Funchess doesn't have the talent or the work ethic. He is better suited to play for another team that needs big physical WR.

Did you read my previous post talking about the catch rates of the receiving corps as a whole? If so, what part did you not understand?

I don't care. Unless you can show me every single target and why the majority of them were all Funchess's fault, it's all just a guess. The fact is, his numbers are not nearly as bad as people are claiming, especially the 9 TD's. Even you have to admit that some of those have been awesome catches.

Well, Funchess is big but he's not exactly physical.

I think he has the talent, no clue about his work ethic. Inconsistency has plagued him dating back to college.

What evidence do you have that Funchess doesn't have a good work ethic? By all accounts he has worked hard and helped the young guys as much as he could this year. You're just making stuff up now.

He's not even physical though, that's the problem.

Not quick enough to get separation and not physical enough to bully his way to separation. That's the issue with him,. He's got some deep speed I'll give him that

It's not an either/or proposition. Players come and go in the NFL and many of them never get a ring. It has been that way since before either of us were ever born.

This is true but we're speaking about the current construct of the Carolina Panthers. I like Funchess and hopes he develops to what we think he can be, but if there is a better option for the #2 wr spot for this team now either on the team already or about to hit the market the Panthers would be crazy not to take a look for the sake of Funchess potential.

Gotcha. So, we'll give the former 2nd rounder who has underachieved all the benefit of the doubt and just assume the majority of his issues are due to a former MVP QB.

I hope when you read those words it'll sink in to you just how incredibly dumb that position truly is.

I think he'll be fine this season. McCaffery and Samuel should make defenses more honest. That'll free up Benji, Funchess and Olsen.

Our lack of speed and our one dimensional playbook made us sitting ducks.

I hope you're right. Funchess turning out to be a legit NFL WR would be a hugely welcomed surprise.

How is it dumb to not to blindly take your word for it that most of the failed targets were his fault? I have watched the games and I know for a fact that Funchess never had a chance to catch a lot of those balls. In fact, a lot of them have been in the end zone and either took him out of bounds or were overthrown because the play just wasn't there. This happens because one of the major reasons he's here is to be a primary red zone target. You can't blame that on the WR.

Didn't impact KB, Olsen, and Ginn. You'd think it'd impact KB and Olsen the most because those are the guys Cam tends to force the ball to.
