Panthers react to Madden 18 Ratings

Pro tip for my fellow players: Move McCaffrey to fullback and feast. He's rated in the 50s only because his strength is low for the position. Lots of FB swings and screens in the playbook and by default he's only in as the third down RB.

Then again they gave him a freaking 38 for run blocking so...

I put him at HB and Stewart at FB. Stewart is only good for short yardage runs in the game and throwing to CMc out of the backfield is easy money online. It's incredibly frustrating playing online and dropping 8 into coverage and our poo secondary still getting burned though. And Vernon Butler is the same rating as Star LOL

Every year I have to spend 2-3 days fixing the awful rosters/ratings that are the game's defaults.

Supposedly EA uses PFF input when compiling player ratings, but one glance at the default rosters will tell you that's bullshit.

TBH, if it were up to me I'd ditch the whole Madden rating system as it has existed to this point. Replace it with a simplified star-based system that focuses less on overall rating and more on individual attributes:

0 STAR PLAYER: 2nd/3rd year players who remain unproven due to lack of playing time (possibly due to time missed because of injury), project/developmental players, CFL signees, non-rookie tryout players with little/no experience, etc. Basically, players who are unknown quantities for whatever reason.

1 STAR PLAYER: Practice squad + fringe roster players. Examples: Eric Crume, L.J. McCray.

2 STAR PLAYER: Average + high quality backups. Examples: Tyler Larsen, Joe Webb.

3 STAR PLAYER: High quality + average starters. Examples: Kelvin Benjamin, Daryl Worley.

4 STAR PLAYER: Pro Bowlers + high quality starters. Examples: Cam Newton, Andrew Norwell.

5 STAR PLAYER: Elite players; perennial All-Pros. Examples: Luke Kuechly, Kawann Short.

In addition, a separate scale for rookies based on a combo of their draft position and expectations that will apply only for each player's rookie season. Afterward, they would be slotted into one of the above categories based on their rookie year performance.

1 STAR ROOKIE: Mid-6th to 7th round rookies + UDFA's.

2 STAR ROOKIE: Mid-4th to early-6th round rookies.

3 STAR ROOKIE: Mid-2nd to early-4th round rookies.

4 STAR ROOKIE: Mid/late-1st round to early-2nd round rookies.

5 STAR ROOKIE: Top-10 to top-15 drafted rookies.
