Possibility of no fullbacks making the team

As fast as Darrel Young made it onto the roster projection last week, he fell off just as quickly when tight end Ed Dickson took all of the snaps as the main blocker in the I-Formation against the Jaguars. Neither Young nor Armah took an offensive snap until the second half, and if one of them is going to make the team, it will be specifically to play special teams

Eh, can't agree.

Young is on the team. Armah could be.

 

Either way, Panthers will have at least one fullback this year.

 

That's a whole lot of conclusions drawn based on half a preseason game.

The offensive scheme has not changed because Gettleman left.

 

Apparently fullback is needed in what Shula has drawn up this year.

It's drawn on the whole preseason, but it's just a PROJECTION. Never said it was gospel, just my thoughts. You think they'll keep both, I think they'll keep neither. We'll see on Saturday.

It would seem unusual to not have a FB, I agree. But based on how little they used both Young and Armah throughout camp and now in the preseason plus giving Dixon those starter reps, it's FAR from a lock. We keyed in on how little those guys participated in drills with anything more than the 3rd team the entire camp. Now after the 3rd preseason game they're still not getting any runs with the 1s or 2s.

They're probably going to keep a FB because they always have. Right? But it's definitely something many people have noticed by their lack of use this entire preseason. For example, here's a quote from Person's piece on Young.

"Speaking of personnel, there’s been speculation (including in this space) that the Panthers might not keep a fullback because of tight end Ed Dickson’s ability to play there. But Rivera said some of the Panthers’ personnel groupings call for a more traditional fullback role."

Ben Jacobs provided more experience over Mayo though. I don't really see him being cut.
