How Important Is Star For The Panthers?

I agree 100% but don't know how you do both. Restructure someone? I hate that move though because it usually ends up kicking the can further down the road and creates dead money for a guy not on the roster in a few years BUT those 2 could be that important.

Panthers can extend both, salary cap is going to increase and couple of veteran cuts will do it.

They have already drafted his replacement.  He will get offered more money than the panthers want to pay him and will probably be playing for another team

No. Butler is VERY bad at playing 1 tech right now. Phenominal as a 3-tech.

He would not be a good Star replacement.

I hope the FO can get this deal done. KK gets it. This was in 2015: “They look at Star and they feel that he’s one of the greats, one of the good guys coming up," Short said. "They double-team him and when they double-team, I got the one-on-one and I gotta make the play.”  http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/news/kawann-short-star-lotulelei-panthers-defensive-lineman-packers/ix4laycxgeb41tuo8l3t6pzp1

I admit that I don't pay much attention to interior line during games but the few times I looked at "tape" (NFL Gamepass) last year it seems like STAR is not actually commanding nearly as many double teams as so many on here claim.  More than half the time where I made a point of looking at interior line play it seemed like STAR was singled while KK was doubled.  KK will beat a double but I don't really see that from STAR.

Again this is anecdotal but perhaps someone with better skills can do an empirical analysis.   I'd like to hear from someone that played line (OL or DL) at the college level because they would have better evaluation in their observations.  It's one of the reasons I can actually get past Frank Garcia being a "D" - he speaks from experience.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Star never gets credit for anything because he doesn't post the stats but outside Kuechly he's the most vital piece on our defense. Without Star, our LBs would have a harder job evading blockers and our pass rushers wouldn't be posting such sack numbers.

Him and Norwell are the priority now. They deserve a hell of a raise.

I do too.... just say'in
