The McGregor/Mayweather Fight In A Nutshell

That's a tad extreme.  Mayweather knows he plays the villain well...wanting the other guy to win doesn't mean you're a racist.  I didn't pay for the McGregor fight....but I did for the Manny fight.  I was rooting for the underdog in that fight too.  Too bad the guy just tested positive for roids, but I would have loved a Mayweather Vs Jon Jones fight.  Would have rooted for Jones. Then again, there's no way  you can be making that kind of racist remark to people who are Panther fans  that didn't root for Mayweather right?  Granted we have a Mayberry owner, but latino HC, black QB.

I respect Mayweather, best modern boxer of our time.  I think Julio Jones is the best WR in the NFL by far, doesn't mean I'm rooting for his team. Doesn't make me racist if I don't.

Calm your tits. It was a general statement and a true one (the great white hope)  that has been used for years to sell tickets. You might not be racist but there are plenty out there will to hand over there cash to see the disrespectful black dude get whats coming to him.

The fight went about how I expected. Mayweather may talk a lot of smack, albeit justified, but he is a very patient fighter that fights according to what works best for him. He knew CMG wasn't conditioned physically or mentally to fight an extended fight. CMG's only chance was to knock him out fast and early. It worked. CMG got gassed and MW went on the offensive. I'd like to see the fight flopped though, with a fight in the octagon now, which I would expect CMG to win because that's his strength, and a 3rd fight in a ring with only punches and kicks, no grapples or takedowns. Won't happen, but it would be interesting to watch.

McGregor never had a chance of a KO. Mayweather isn't a brawler and he was the more skilled. On top of all that he was quicker as well. Reach and size was the only advantage of McGregor.

I never say never. If MCG had somehow landed a perfectly placed punch it could have happened. That was his only chance though. The fight went longer than I expected, but I never thought MCG was going to win it. MW is a grandmaster in the ring. I thought it would be over by the 4th with MW getting a TKO.

I think it would have been a more even fight if they had been able to use kicks. MCG couldn't compete with MW boxing skills, and MW couldn't compete with MCG with his MMA skills. That would have evened the field quite a bit and who knows what could have happened then.

early stoppage. being tired isn't a reason to stop a fight. wasn't hurt or knocked down and he deserved to see the 11th round. now lets see if floyd will fight him in mma like he said he would. somehow i doubt it

If you know anything about boxing it was pretty clear what Mayweather was doing from the opening bell... in some ways it was worse than Mayweather knocking him out in the 1st round, he was toying with him. Mayweather didn't even need to move his feet that much, just played peek-a-boo while waiting for McGregor to gas and then took him out.

McGregor hadn't thrown a punch in over a min and could no longer protect himself... ref had to stop it.

The premise of this fight was stupid to begin with. An world class MMA fighter will never, ever be able to stand up 12 rounds of boxing rules with a world class boxer. I just isn't the same sport...not even close. Also, no way, ever a world class boxer will be able to rumble around with an MMA fighter in the octagon where there are no rules and technical skills are meaningless. This alone makes me believe this was purely for entertainment/money. I can't believe people were stupid enough to pay and watch this as if it made any sense whatsoever and was a legitimate match. Morons who think Boxing has any relation to MMA or vise vera lol. Both respectable sports but so very different.

That's on both sides of the coin and it's sad. Mayweather knows he's plays the bad guy though. People pay to see the bad guy lose. That's why Patriots games are always sold out.

i get what you're saying... but what you said in bold is incredibly untrue for MMA and what's happening in UFC these days

if technical skills are meaningless, go watch the last two cormier/jones fights and see how much closer that second fight was after cormier had a fight to go off of and train against

or any cerrone fight where he gets his opponent on the ground

technical skills (especially grappling/wrestling) are what separates the best from everyone else

So under what circumstances would Conor DQ? You think it would be scripted for him to lose the rights to one hundred million because he DQ'ed? Sales in tin foil must have gone way up the past week with all of the conspiracy theories floating around; conspiracy theories exactly like yours.

I said scripted from a promotional aspect and am not conspiracy driving this.  I'm saying he was likely either going to do something out of instinct that was beyond the back of head warnings which he did (which would have gotten any normal boxer nixed) or losing how he did.  He never had a chance in hell but they weren't going to let it go until he was full KO'd.
