How surprising? Not really. This is but another instance of a player wanting to come here because of a coach (e.g. Christian McCaffey, Matt Kalil).

Anyway, Cox is really taking advantage of his situation, and he wholeheartedly believes his work has been enough to let the Panthers or another team know that he is NFL worthy.

 

"It's either going to be good enough for this ball club or hopefully another one."

Considering Belichik's current desperate need at the position, if we waive Cox to try to sneak him on the PS, he gone.

I doubt he makes the roster. He will make the practice squad or might get injured and end up on IR mysteriously.

He needs to make the team over Horton.  We have enough veterans on this team; at some point we have to emphasize developing young defensive ends.

Echoing others, but I'd rather keep him than Horton. More potential, younger, etc. If all else fails, we've cut Horton and re-signed him before, can do it again should we need a DE during the season.
