Final Roster Projection

I don't know about Samuel, did he have any KR experience in college?

Regardless, I don't get why you lump Young and Fozzy into consideration for the same roster spot. We're going to keep a FB to play the FB spot, Fozzy has nothing to do with that. It's possible Fozzy and Armah are battling for a spot for ST, but there's also the factor that Armah is a young unpolished kid with like no experience at the position who's shown a ton of promise to be our FB of the future. Probable PS? Yeah, I don't think another team would snag him. But it's possible they want to be more safe than sorry and keep him over a guy like Jacobs or Fozzy even if those two are doing better than him on ST. He's shown enough on ST that if we kept him behind Young it wouldn't be a wasted roster spot.

I didn't mean literally a FB in Fozzy's spot. But in Igo's projection he has 3 RBs and 2 FBs. So it's safe to assume Fozzy is sacrificed at the expense of keeping 2 FBs is all I meant.

So here are some facts....

Panthers haven't been using FBs hardly at all

Dixon has been getting those blocking assignments when they do use one. And he's done well (see: CMC TD)

Young has been ahead of Armah all of camp and is getting more of the snaps when they do use a FB (the Jags game it was tied with only 5)

Cutting Fozzy means we have no KR and we have to replace him with someone who isn't getting those ST reps. Who is that player?

RR historically has favored vets. Keeping Armah over Young or Jacobs just because of ST would be a shocker.

If theyre going "safe than sorry" like you said it makes more sense to have more LBs than RBs/FBs. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if Ron favors a LB over a FB if all other things are equal.

Yeah I get that, all I'm saying is I think a FB is a lock over Fozzy being kept as a 4th HB. The 2nd FB is clearly up in the air.

When are you saying they haven't been using FB? Preseason? I don't know that that's the best indicator as we haven't been scheming much at all and I'm sure we've been keeping our cards on offense close to our chest. Ron's liked his FB his entire career here, and I don't expect that to change much, but I suppose it's possible if we're evolving in a direction away from it.

I agree that Young is ahead of Armah, but he's not a longterm solution at FB. He's just holding the place until Armah is up to speed to takeover. We aren't going to rely on such an unpolished rookie at the position, but I think he's in our plans for the future if he keeps developing at this pace. The safe than sorry is losing a young player who's in our plans for the future, not being safe than sorry on ST production.

That's not true. If we keep Byrd, he took more kickoffs this preseason than Fozzy as it was, and was more productive there too. I don't see us keeping Clay but he would be an option as well if he's in the wideout group instead of or in addition to Byrd. And I wouldn't really love it but Webb has return experience and hasn't been much worse than Fozzy.

I agree with your assessment of Ron favoring vets and LB, and I do expect to see Armah on the PS, but I still think it's possible that what Jeremy predicts will happen because of Ron/Hurney not wanting to lose such a young upside player that may be in their vision for the future. We have plenty of LB depth and talent there too, I don't think we need to keep an extra one over Armah just because of slightly better ST play.

Keeping Armah would be similar to keeping Byrd last year, except he also can contribute on ST. Byrd probably could've made it to the PS last year, and Armah very likely would this year. But they didn't want to risk it last year and it's possible they don't want to with Armah either. Unlikely to keep 2 FBs ultimately, but not as impossible as it seemed a month ago before Armah picked up his play.

I don't see us keeping 2 FBs and 3 TEs. 1 & 3 or 2 & 2.

We will keep more DBs, either waiver wire pickups or guys on the roster. I think Corn belongs on PUP but I think its too late.

10 Olineman is excessive. There are plenty of Chris Scotts sitting out there waiting for a call if injuries strike.

Regardless of who we keep, this lineup will look different by Week 3.

I see us carrying 6 WRs. Clay is our best punt returner and will help us in field position. I think the injuries at DT depth will force us to keep an extra DT over an extra RB like Fozzy. Anderson's complete meltdown I think should make the decision easier to cut him, which would free up an extra player we could use in the secondary like L.J. McCray. Which will help because Colin Jones has looked terrible out there.

We can also keep Gilbert on the practice squad. Armah should be safe on the practice squad as well. I think we keep Southward as the backup FS/CB due to the severity of depth at CB. I could also see us cutting Horton in favor of someone else. The reason I have him here is because I believe we would use a heavy rotation at DE due to Peppers' and Johnson's age.

Butker has shown he should be our kicker. If Gano makes it, and it would not surprise me, it shows the complete lack of judgement from Rivera. This roster cut will tell us which direction this team is going. Are we going to really "evolve" and put the best 53 man squad together or are we going to stay the course and keep "Rivera's guys" or players that give us the feels?

PS: Can someone tell me how to edit signatures again?
