Mayo brings the mustard

I hope you see what I did there--went with a condiment theme because his name is Mayo. I even heard Henne telling his guard to "hold the mayo."  Ok--I am done.   I don't start many threads, but I noticed Mayo got a lot of buzz in the game day thread, but this guy is tearing up the preseason.  We need to find a way to get him on the field, and I have some thoughts about that and a few other observations comments to get the ball rolling.

1.  Play him when games are decided instead of Luke.  I never understood why NFL teams risk injury by playing starters with a 24-point lead in the fourth.  Build your depth and eliminate injury and end-of-season fatigue.  Mayo would hold his own.

2. Take a look at Mayo behind TD.  If he can play there, we could be set there for a while.  I like him better at MLB, but he reads nearly as quickly as Luke---and that is more important that foot speed.  OK--here is one:  If he were to take TD's starting spot one day, you could call them Luke and Dukes. And if Cash were to replace Shaq, you would have Luke and Dukes and Dukie.   I am on fire.

3.  Trade him.  I know that is not a popular concept, but we have a ton of depth (Norris and Jacobs and Boulware) behind him.  A team, especially a 3-4. might give up a nice player or draft pick for Mayo, especially if there is an injury that threatens their season.  If we can't find a place for him on the field, we need to get a player for him that can find the field.   A Safety, perhaps?  I hate saying this because I LOVE Mayo and I love the players we have like him, but if you look at the business side...

A 24 pt lead by the panthers in the 4th quarter has proven over the years to not be enough
