I smoked for 30 years and am coming up on 4 years free of cigs....  I still dont know if I am jealous or feel sorry for people when I see them smoking today...  I LOVED my cigarettes....  So thankful I chose to quit...  Cold turkey...  11/2/13...

1 week, solid....

When I walk outside & somebody's smoking close, I smell deep, I like it. But when somebody has just finished a smoke & walks by me, I want to ralph & think "that used to be me.."

Same after 4 years....  Keep telling yourself every day you dont want to start over..  That helped me a bunch the first couple months....

Thanks dave-o.... the last time I had "quit" was the summer '95, I was 21 & still had plenty of wind & energy..... I am fuggin amazed at how good I feel a week in & I know I'm like 15yrs from my lungs being pink again but still.... 21 days to embrace a new habit, like how I'm feeling a third of the way in....,

Not sure if this will help or not but here's what I did to not smoke through the withdrawal phase. I could drive past a store without stopping to get a pack, so that part was fairly easy. I bought a box of smokes, opened them and dipped the butts in the gas station toilet then closed the box. I kept that box with me and knew that any time I wanted a smoke, I knew where the one pack I had had been and I couldn't bring myself to light one up. 3 weeks later I tossed the box and haven't looked back.

  • 3 weeks later...

4 weeks yesterday, it's easy now... Still want one occasionally, just don't want to have to start over if I were give in to the urge/habit... using a vape occasionally, but staying strong without a cigarette.... my sense of smell is crazy coming back, food is tasting better too...

really appreciate all the support, Huddle....

Keep it up man

Only advice I have is that if you ever fall off and have another one THAT'S OK. Don't beat yourself up and feel worthless, you have already done so much damage reversal and each day you make it that's even more. You don't need to start over your day count even. Just keep trucking along like it never happened.

The irony after you give me some pie or w/e, I relapsed haha. Had a rough week and a HUUUUGE moment of weakness. Looks like I'll need to keep some patches around for a rainy day.

I echo this though, if you slip...that's cool just keep walkin' until you don't slip.

Don't beat yourself up cline. You have accomplished so much. Just keep going.

It's scientifically proven that new years resolutions rarely work because people have these incredible lofty goals that are impossible to complete, so as soon as they fail they feel defeated and think there is no point in continuing. WRONG. you did good, you might not have lost 100 pounds but you lost 10. Don't gain that 10 back.
