I think the majority of his runs will start between the tackles. He seems to excel at that better than just straight tosses and sweeps to the outside. What the Panthers have been showing is more zone blocking that well let him pick his hole to run through.

Yeah to be honest when I saw the line get no forward movement I was expecting it stuffed for no gain. I had to double take when he got positive yardage.

 Guilty as charged. On the inside running, lets see him do it for a season before calling it case closed and deciding anyone who doubts his inside running a fool. I'm not sold on a preseason 3 yard run though I'm not trying to take anything away from him. Much bigger guys than CMC get hurt in contact on outside runs-see Spencer Ware tonight. So yeah its football you can get injured anywhere. The point is not that hes unable but that running him up the middle continually puts him at higher risk of injury among those big bodied linemen. What i worry about is his durability over time-not whether he can do it.

Literally watched the play about 7 times just now thinking the same thing. And CMC is the player with the vision, and agility that even in such a small window can make it happen. He hits that hole behind Olsen, as Byrd is doing a great job on his assignment...it's probably going for 20 at least.

He is a rookie who has watched limited film--give the vision time.  That delay handoff is a bear because bodies are flying. From our perch atop the press box, the hole is there, but on the ground, it is not.  Besides, this is preseason.  If you guess wrong on a play like that, it could be damaging.

So how much college film and preseason film do you need before someone figures out McCaffrey's inside running is good, and probably the best from his class?

I get that, he's only going to get better. He's already shown me quite a few times that he can hit the hole at JUST the right moment.
Your point is true, I don't expect him to see every single sliver that opens. With that being said....

If it's there in the press box, it's there on the field. That's why these guys get paid millions.

It's only a few seconds, but the difference in CMC exploding forward and Stewart hesitating/dancing seems like an eternity.

 Apparently I didn't convey my meaning very well. He is very able. But shouldn't be overused in that role. Yes I also understand that its smart for him to take some inside routes to to keep the defence honest too, otherwise defences will know what to expect from him. As I thought I said what I worry about is the consequences of his being expected to do it for a season(s). I really couldn't care less how he 'ranks' against others from his class or great HOF's. But for what its worth I think you'd have a hard time convincing anybody to take him over a power back like Fournette in a run up the middle.

By the way I do enjoy your articles even if I don't always agree with your opinions. Keep up the good work.
