Funchess demoted?

Perhaps they just wanted to get him some more work for evaluation---to see if he could play a KB type of role without KB being in there.  Who knows?

I wouldn't look at as demoted but more of they wanted to get Samuel some much needed play time to see how he reacts.  At the same time, they didn't feel Funchess needed to sit all night either.

not a surprise. he underperformed often at Michigan. And while he has size, and had a solid year, he is on the verge of getting passed by incoming talent. It's always that 3rd yr or so where players go in 1 direction or another. will be interesting to watch how it unfolds.

I think they're trying to get him more snaps as a primary option. experience running routes as a WR involves a lot of game reps. it's not as sexy a thought as the coaches hate him, but it's easy to forget that the preseason is an instructional time as much as an evaluation time.

If he did get demoted? who you going to promote? its a two way street and Shepard aint done poo and Samuel aint ready.

Funchess had two very nice catches. First catch showed a lot of grit fighting for extra yards, that put us in short third. The second was just a nice high pointing a very tall ball. 

This probably was a little of both, getting Samuel some early touches, and a signal for funchess to step up.

DA sucking played a huge role with Byrd. When he was targeted him as the go to, it was the wrong choice because of defense coverage or it was a poorly thrown ball.

Maybe they just wanted to see him get a couple of catches under his belt and he wasn't targeted early on so they left him in there. He made one great catch on a high ball when they finally targeted him and then he showed some toughness on a short pass where he fought off 2-3 defenders to get a couple more yards. I don't understand what people are complaining about with him. He certainly did as well as Samuel even though he was targeted a lot less.

Yeah it's hard for me to get too down on the WR corps because DA has been so brutally awful it's impossible to gauge how the WR are performing.
