Preseason Week 3 Winners/Losers

Winners:

Cam- Only 1 drive and 2 throws, but the offense just has a different energy with him out there.

CAP- Made his case for RB3

Mayo- looks to be very capable backup to Luke and maybe better than Klein. In the words of our dear departed Gman, "he'll tag your fanny."

Moton- Could be the best RT we've had since the brief time period we had a healthy and motivated Otah.

Pep- Still looks like he could be a double digit sack guy

Luke- if he's healthy, could be in conversation for DPOY again

Sanchez- looked like for first time he could be a depth piece at CB. Had several really good plays including the phenomenal interception

KB- looks like the guy we heard about in the 2015 preseason before his ACL injury.

Funchess- debated putting him on here, but he made 2 great catches that highlight the matchup problem he can be if he plays to his potential.

Bryan Cox, Jr.- has looked as good as Hall in terms of rookie DE's. While he doesnt have the measueables of Hall, hes got a motor that doesnt stop. Hope we can stash him on PS.

Armah- another guy with a lot of potential though raw. Has impressive speed for FB. Could be intriguing as a potential to take the roster spot that usually would be for TE3 since no one has stepped up.

Losers:

DA- it's going to get beat ad nausuem over the next week, but tonight was the first time I think the collective fan base has questioned his place on the roster, not just the backup QB. He was simply horrendous, both in decision making and throwing. By far the most concerning part of tonight, and really the whole preseason has been a continuation of his bad game against TB last year.

Cole Luke- kid just looks lost at there for the most part. Maybe a year on the PS could make a difference after the good reports from camp.

Byrd- Still think his roster spot is secure and some of it is due to not getting looks and/or bad throws, but he has been MIA the last 2 games.

Safeties- No one stood out as bad, but no one really stepped up as good either which is a net loss in my book based on how thin we are there. Think Southward's got a good chance to make team, but really hope we can find someone who can contribute once cuts are made. Adams didn't look bad tonight, but Coleman is our only safety I have any real confidence in. I hope our Front Seven can perform like we did in 2013 bc our secondary and especially safety is not looking like a strength.

Worley- he played pretty well at the end of last year, but he still has looked like a guy who is going to get picked this year bases on the preseason. I have confidence in Wilks working with him, but he has been beat repeatedly so far this preseason.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
