I will bet you $50 right now that pending injuries, Shepard makes it over Ross.

1. Kelvin Benjamin: Not really much explanation needed, he's the #1 until someone supplants him (note: that someone is not on the roster).

2. Devin Funchess: Similar to Benjamin, he'll be the #2 until someone can come in a prove they are better. Many thought that Shepard could potentially be that guy but only time will tell.

3. Slot: Curtis Samuel: The guy was brought into run past people and that is exactly what he is going to do.

4. Brenton Bersin: I think people are going to surprised with this one, but Bersin has some of the best hands on the team (outside of catching punts) and he always manages to find soft spots in the defense.

5. Russell Shepard: Shepard hasn't done anything to impress as of yet but he also hasn't gotten to play a preseason game with Cam either.

6. Damiere Byrd: Byrd makes the roster due to his ability to play special teams (punt returner) and God forbid Samuel goes down, Byrd can step in and be the deep threat.

Practice Squad: Austin Duke: He's done nothing but impress and though he's had some mental lapses here and there, he has the potential to be a contributing wide out in the future.

Injured Reserve: Fred Ross and Keyarris Garrett: Somehow or another these two are going to end up on injured reserve so the Panthers can retain both of them.

Cut: Kaelin Clay, Mose Frazier, Trevor Graham: I'd like to keep Clay because he seems to have upside but I believe they will elect to go with Byrd because they have been developing him over the past few years.

Good post...but Clay is certainly PS material along with Austin Duke in this scenario, no?

Also, I don't think anyone here will be surprised if Bersin makes it :fear:

KB and Samuel are stone cold locks.

Funch is safe for one more season but I'm starting to doubt he has the motivation to accel here.

Shepard is probably safe but so far has been non existent.

Byrd's only hope is special teams. Clay may beat him out.

Bersin has the edge over Byrd at the moment.

Clay, see Byrd.

Duke to the PS.

The rest will be cut.

KB, Funch, Shep, Samuel, Byrd

Bersin will be cut but told to stay by the phone in case anyone gets injured. In that case he will be brought back immediately... however...

2nd-ly, i don't get the hate for him. I never.. ever.. eva eva eva eva eva want to see him returning punts - but he is a clutch possession receiver that Cam has used in the past - I can think of 3 huge 3rd down catches he has made for us..

I think Byrd has the edge over Bersin since he beat him out last year and has more upside. It may be close though.

I don't see a way Clay beats out Byrd.

Practice squad bound, which is a good thing. I'm excited about the potential of Duke and Clay.

Bersin's injury makes it easy for the Panthers to IR him and properly use him like the player-coach he is. I'd bet he will be the future Panthers WR coach in 5-10 years time. That said my predictions are:

Benjamin

Samuel

Funchess

Shepard

Byrd

Clay and Duke on the PS. Ross is cut.

The only reason I have Bersin ahead of Byrd is due to the fact that he's a more reliable wr.  Clay so far is a better punt returner than Byrd but I doubt he will get that job because he's very raw.

I agree Byrd is a coach favorite it seems but I'm not going to bet that just because he made it last year over Bersin he will the season also.

I just want the best 5 or 6 to make it and I don't care who they are.

I wanted to put Clay on the PS I just couldn't find a list of our practice squads under Rivera to see how often they carry two wide outs on the PS; so I just went with Duke because he's younger.

I like Clay though, his game reminds me of Ryan Switzer's.

Yeah if we are going based solely on upside/ability I'd give the nod to Clay all day. I'm intrigued by his potential.

    • Yeah that with the Taylor Moton clip from yesterday...These guys have felt completely hamstrung the last two weeks
    • Our receivers were right there on the field, they also watched Bryce on film, and it sounds like they're looking forward to Dalton. Xavier Legette on Andy Dalton: "He got a fine understanding of things. I like the way he throws the ball and how to position it, so I feel like we going be good... On the go balls, he knows the right timing and the right among of air... The deep ball that's something I feel I'm good at, and that's something I been working on at practice [with Andy]... I ain't talked to him [Bryce] about it [the benching] yet, but we just got to continue to play. Next man up, and it's Andy."   Diontae Johnson on Andy Dalton: "A vet who's been back there for a while and knows the game, so once you have a guy like that back there, it allows you to be yourself more... He takes a lot off our plate just by having that experience knowing what to do, getting us the right calls, knowing when the pressure is coming..."
