Samuel ain't just been sitting around

Curtis Samuel has been putting in work. He's been in the playbook, and it apparently shows according to Bill Voth's latest article on Panthers.com.  

"He looked good," head coach Ron Rivera said. "The nice part was that he knew where to line up for the most part, knew where to go, knew what his routes were supposed to be.

"We'll have to watch the tape, but it looked like he was doing the things he needed to be."

 

"I wanted to be out there, but some good things came out of this injury," Samuel said. "I've been in the playbook, so I was able to study rather than being out there like a chicken with his head cut off. 

"I had time that most people don't have because after practice when you're tired, sometimes it's hard to focus. But with me out a little bit, I was really able to study the playbook and really learn the ins and outs so I can give myself the best chance to play as soon as possible."

 

So, now we know, Samuel seems to be pretty positive, and he has a good work ethic.

Not getting reps in practice does have its benefits. I know plenty of people who will say that having the time to process the information out before applying it rather than being thrown in there actually helps them learn faster than going out there without much time to analyze what your role is.

Like Cam's injury may help with his footwork, Samuel's injury may have actually helped him learn more routes and concepts at a faster rate. Sure, he does need the reps for his body to memorize the movements, but at least he knows what he's supposed to do.

I believe that notion extends beyond football. Organizations just get so stuck in their ways that they lose varying degrees of efficiency and effectiveness by using a cookie cutter type approach as it pertains to education.

Actually just wrote an article on that very subject that should be released tomorrow.

Samuel is an impressive guy.

He was a team first guy at OSU and seems to have the mental make-up, plus the skills to be a big contributor.

Don't worry about his time off. Give him a few weeks to get up to speed and he'll be good to go.

With CMC already showing us that he's...electric. And Moton showing us he can be solid and potentially better. And Armah doing Armah things. The unknown of Elder because of injury. Butker doing well (not that we keep him) but good for him. And now potentially Samuel showing that he is in it to win it (with the potential to show us some things maybe on Thursday)...this draft class could be a home run. It's hard not to be excited about these guys.

Why in the h#ll wouldn't we keep Butker?  Gano must go.

I see some great potential in Samuels and agree that spending that time in the books will benefit him more than most think. I'm eager to get eyes on him Thursday, though. I wanna see some of that chemistry and speed at work with some pro competition. I think he can handle it, but it'll be important to get him some reps during preseason, even if not in great numbers.
