Everything I've heard says even just a few seconds of UV exposure does significant damage to the eyes. Isn't worth the risk if you ask me. Use the glasses until the sun is totally occluded and then take them off.

I will be in my front yard with my daughter as my city has become an absolute zoo since we have the longest eclipse time anywhere. I couldn't leave if I wanted too. Hopkinsville, KY.  But I'm ready.
