Tick Tock on Webb?

Derek Anderson had a bad camp. On a perfect day, I think that the Panthers would get rid of him in favor of Joe Webb. But Webb's camp, practices, and the preseason game left a lot to be desired as well. If ever there was a time to knock D.A. off his perch, it was during this camp, but Webb didn't do it. He showed exactly why he is the third string QB. And that's a problem. 

With the hiring of Shepard and the possible emergence of Kaelin Klay, and with all these players at other positions flashing (on a relative basis), like Cole Luke, L.J. McCray and Dezmen Southward, Webb is looking more expendable in my estimation.

Do we really need him that much at special teams anymore? We certainly don't need him at receiver. And with Garrett Gilbert showing enough to be likely headed to the practice squad as a possibility at backup one day, and the coming cuts by other teams adding to the availability of marginal signal callers, I'm thinking Webb is gone.

Complication is that Webb has a lot of ST value, very unique for a 3rd QB. Clay would have to be as valuable on coverage and return blocking to usurp Webb's ST spot.

I'd be shocked to see them cut Webb when Cam playing in week one is not a 100% certainty.

I'd take Webb over DA any day of the week, we can run the same offense and not miss a beat, IMO, the only thing DA does good, even better then Cam... is get to the line quickly, and he knows how to throw KB open. Other then that, he really isn't something we can't replace

By final cuts it will be a 100% certainty. I just think they're being extra cautious. And don't forget my allusion to getting someone else altogether.

Well, that's a pretty big thing as far as I'm concerned. And don't limit it to KB. Moreover, have you been following the practices? Webb is kind of a scary proposition. He's much scarier than DA in my book.

Yeah, Ron is Ron, and Hurney could be a problem, but he might pleasantly surprise.

No way we cut Webb.  Normally id say we wouldn't carry more than 2 QBs on active roster but with him we can carry 3.   Dude is a heckuva ST player, can play WR if needed and even RB.  Heck I'd say we could probably throw him in at CB and he'd out perform Sanchez.  Jack of all trades player just way to important.  DA will be gone before Webb IMO.

When it comes to those last few roster spots, those who can play multiple positions have an edge. It's hard to find players like Webb that can play most offensive positions in a pinch and special teams.

This off season the panthers would do well to upgrade that position or draft someone in the 2nd Rd and groom.  

Nothing wrong with thinking ahead and preparing for the most important position on the team

DA is blowing his opportunity to displace Wonder Woman, IMO. Webb will be retained as a backup with high ST utility. TBH, best move might be to move DA or WW and bring in You Know Who.

Until we can upgrade QB2, I don't think it's even a question of who we should keep if it comes down to a choice between Anderson or Webb. Both are obviously prone to blunders if you're forced into starting them, but Webb has more value as a whole to the team right now.

The reality is we certainly could be doing worse. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be making it a priority to improve our QB depth in the future.

Webb played ok last preseason game, but TC and practices have been bad.  I like Gilbert a lot, and wouldn't be totally shocked if gen is kept and Webb is cut.
