Brian Dawkins, Darren Sharper... Charles Godfrey

It has been a topic on this board that most everyone agrees with - Charles Godfrey sucks. Plain and simple. The guy has been the worst player on a horrible defense (excluding his pay, in that case it's Peppers).

Watching the games this weekend, kind of brought it all to a boil... I had already notice what an impact Brian Dawkins had in Denver on that defense. I also couldn't help but notice, even before this week, what an impact Darren Sharper has had in New Orleans. I honestly thought both were on the last legs of their careers.

BUT, that last leg can stand quite while for safeties. Rod Woodson extended his career by quite a few years by converting to safety. A few others have as well, but he was the most successful that comes to mind.

The difference is, Dawkins and Sharper have been safeties pretty much their entire careers (not sure, but Sharper may have started as a CB). Anyway, point is...

Imagine what a difference these guys would have made on this defense. Dawkins got the defense together on Sunday very early after Dallas had scored, and he ripped them a new one. The guy plays like he's still 25. I think it was Aikman and Buck on that game, and they said how the coaches in Denver have said Dawkins is one of the greatest leaders they have EVER been around. EVER. It's obvious in his fire and play.

Sharper seems like he's 82 years old to me, yet, the guy has returned two INTs for TDs already this year and leads the league in INTs. Wow. Both were significantly long returns as well.

I know Pep has pretty much held us hostage with his contract and is laughing all the way to the bank. But, Sharper was signed for 1 year, 1.7 mil. Again, the guy IS LEADING THE L IN INTS!!!

Dawkins impact is obvious. He signed for 5 yrs, 17 mil. 3 mil and some change a season.

We could've afforded either of these guys. And I guarantee you with either of them, along with Beason, our defense would be totally different right now. Just put them in Godfrey's place and our defense would look totally different. Another obvious flub by the front office not doing their due diligence.

Luckily though, we traded our 1st round pick for a 2nd round talent! Woot!

(also in hindsight, after watching Keyshawn's account of his "revenge" on Tampa Bay when he signed with us, I'm willing to say our front office f*cked up with him by letting him go as well.)

Greg Williams made chicken salad out of chicken feathers.

Our defensive coordinator has made ....well ...

Our defense was looking pretty good during the dallas game. However, going 4 consecutive 3 and outs killed us. Maybe this week we can put an entire game together on both sides of the ball.

The offense was the problem against philly and the offense was the problem against Dallas. I've said this a thousand times, if the defense plays too long on the field they're going to break, that's supposed to be the point of establishing a running game, the same running game that we've spent six or seven first day draft picks on under John fox.

If the offense had of done something against Dallas the defense wouldn't have played so badly.

Godfrey isn't a bad safety, last year he was named one of the players under 25 to watch. He's got good skills and can be a good safety in the NFL, but like Gamble and Marshall and Munnerlyn he can't do a damn thing if receivers in his zone have all day to run around because the defensive line is dragging ass, whether its because of injury, lack of motivation or exhaustion, what ever.

Good point if your frontline doesnt do squat to the QB then the DBs arent going to either.. doesnt matter how good you are.

How To Look Like a Football GENIUS

Step 1: Pick a player on our team not performing well

Step 2: Pick a player at the same position on another team who's perfoming well

Step 3: Berate your team for picking the guy not doing well over guys doing well

Step 4: Ignore the fact that most other NFL teams did the same thing

Step 5: When people point out you had no clue the guys doing well would be doing well before the season started, simply say "I'm not paid to do this! They are!"

Step 6: Avoid giving any concrete suggestions on players for the future as people will probably laugh at you, not to mention bring it up in the future.

Step 7: Play sad music. Cut self. Cry.

I agree with this...with harris back and Hollis thomas Godfreys game should pick up..people also just like to pick a player and say he sucks anyway without even looking at his entire game..they see one play..and all of a sudden he sucks

Godfrey is a rare exception.....he has like a streak of horrific play for like 13 straight games.....not just a play here or there in each game but every game for the entire game.

And I thought this was basic football knowledge.. and yet, we have to continue to point this out time and time again. On this note, our QB issues don't fall on Jake's shoulders as much as our OLine's... Look at Brady against the Jets or even the Raven's. Even Aaron Rodgers last night. We have to get this line back to form because this year, it, alone, is killing us.
