Will Panthers participate in Breast Cancer Awareness (Pink)?

That's really cool of Williams to propose the pink shoes. I'll admit that I get sometimes a bit annoyed with all of this breast cancer stuff -- not because I'm opposed to finding a cure, or because I'm some insensitive jerk. But when I'm met with shelves upon shelves full of pink merchandise for the cause, I can't help but think the whole thing is as much marketing for the company as it is fundraising for the cure. That's not just in October, either. All year we're overwhelmed with pink, pink, pink.

In the end, though, I guess it doesn't matter as long as the ends outweigh the means.

I have no problem with the Panthers wearing pink, there's not a thing immasculating about wearing pink. In fact, today I'm wearing a pink shirt, pink ribbon and jeans in support of Lee Denim Days (Christina Applegate is the sponsor). It's a great cause and I'm very glad to see that the NFL is a part of this. And anyone who cracks a joke about men wearing pink for the cause should get their ass kicked.

I hope the Panthers do roll out a pink alternate jersey for this month (couldn't have a worse record in 'em than our current alternates)

I think it's a brilliant marketing campaign that has caught on everywhere over the years. I also think it may have a detrimental impact on awareness and fundraising for other cancer research -- the "lesser knowns" or the less mainstream, but no less deadly. It has been quite successful, and I'd love to read a case study on it. I'd really like to come up with the next greatest marketing campaign for some of the causes I volunteer for.
