Thomas Davis signs contract extension

Are some of you THAT cheap?

Would someone who understands contracts better than me step in? Gee whiz!

Here is what Lucas Ewing of USA Today had to say:

Before the extension, Davis’ deal already had him at $3.25 million in base salary for 2017 plus $4 million more prorated, per Over the Cap.

That’s a pretty reasonable price to pay for a linebacker and locker room leader of Davis’ caliber, even if he has lost half a step. It also seems like a piddling sum to solve what may have been a major factor in the recent firing of former general manager Dave Gettleman.

If we're as good as people are saying we are, and we are right in that window of players peaking and finishing up great careers over the next two years --- then there is no way in hell that you don't give TD that extension. He's not just the heart and soul of the team, but he is still one of the top LBs in the league.

If you've got a problem with this, man, I don't know what is wrong with you.

It's a good deal all around. I just think Shaq needs more snaps over him, as I think he's the better player.

I think that's pretty subjective. Shaq was pretty raw when he first got here. He's clearly improving. Honestly if you want to take off the homer glasses, the first round selection continues to look rather iffy considering by the time he is the full time starter it will be about time to begin talking about his next contract.

Makes more sense to make him play out the final year of his deal and re-access his value to the team after his contract expires. Then offer him the 1 year extension. You are basically just overpaying him now and putting the panthers in jeopardy for signing future players. Love TD but he basically locked in a 7 mil dollar rate at the age of 35 when he could have been paid 2-3 mil if we had waited.
