Luke Kuechly Taking Extra Steps To Prevent Another Concussion

Going to need to see an independent randomized double blind study before I will believe that thing works.

How would that even be possible without putting the test subjects at risk though? No dummy or machine can ever fully replicate the human brain or the differences between one person and the next, so I'm not sure how much I would trust that kind of testing either. Nevertheless, I hope this works because it could help a lot of people in the future, way beyond what it could do for Keuchly.

Another concussion may not end his career but it would almost certainly shut him down for the season if it happened this year. That would be a pretty big deal.

Agreed. But honestly if he gets another one he's only risking his health at that point. He's already made his fortune and proven his worth on the field. He'd have every right and reason to retire.

Thing is we really don't know how many concussions Luke has had. The way he plays, I could totally see him having had previous less serious concussions and not saying anything. He would do that to stay on the field and help his team.

The surrealism of this situation in particular makes for a sobering discussion when realizing the lengths these athletes will go to just to continue playing a game for pure entertainment.

Meanwhile we have fans here that bash their own players as greedy spoiled babies that need people to be nice to them all the time.

And about $15 mill/year. No other gig aside from some highly aggressive investing/CEO position is going to pay that well.

Don't question the moral compass of the universe.

Apparently, the collar only affects the outflow of blood from the brain and not the inflow.

That doesn't instill confidence in me that it is a good idea to swell the brain lIke that.  I think they are using these guys as lab rats to be honest.  But I'm no expert.

The device couldn't be used without proper testing. The people wearing these aren't lab rats.

I did smartass.  Still doesn't convince me that starving the brain of oxygen rich blood to the point of swelling is a good long term solution.

Just because an article doesn't convince you doesn't make it not true. These scientists aren't just making stuff up.
