Analysis: Could Taylor Moton Earn The Starting Right Tackle Gig As Soon As Week 1?

One position battle that the Carolina Panthers are focusing hard on this year is the battle for the starting right tackle spot. After letting Mike Remmers go in free agency, the Panthers look to find their next starter through training camp.

Currently, Daryl Williams is the favorite to win the starting gig. However, that may not last long. A certain second round rookie is making a lot of noise, and he’s not quieting down anytime soon.

His name is Taylor Moton, and he’s turning heads.

Could Taylor Moton ultimately win out the job? Or better yet, is he a better fit for the job? These questions answered and more in my article below:

Take a read. You won't regret it.

I'm about to start creating threads where I pull only gifs of DWilliams blowing folks up and gifs of Moton getting ragdolled.

Moton is awesome and will likely be the future, but why are we pretending that Williams is the equivalent of Remmers and writing him off? There's literally a one round difference between the two in terms of being draft prospects.

Then again, ppl still find ways to devalue JStew, KB, and Cam so why am I surprised :/

I like Daryl Williams and I think he's a certain upgrade over Remmers. I just think Taylor Moton could be better.

Daryl Williams issue is having the athleticism to go against speed rushers. That's why he could never be a left tackle in the first place. He's good, but Moton could be better.

Either way, whoever's starting at right tackle will be far superior than when Remmers was around. I think Moton has the edge, but we'll see.

I agree 100% that Moton could be better from toolset & technique alone

I'm just not all for throwing him in there right away when DWilliams, at least from what limited action I've seen, is looking solid.

I think that it was many people's expectation that he would be the starter this year.

Daryl Williams had the worse grades by PFF of all the Panthers' O-linemen last season, including Mike Remmers, so I fully expected Dave Gettleman to upgrade the position (particularly with the injury history of our other tackles). Taylor Moton was arguably the one with the most upside, other than maybe Garrett Bolles or Cam Robinson. He is certainly in the conversation. Now it's just a matter of him getting up to speed. So far he's exceeding expectations.

I have already seen enough. He played at LG, RG, and RT in that first game and dominated at all three positions. It's time to put him at RT and let him run with he 1's.

Edit. I also watched a lot of his college stuff after he was drafted and I was particularly impressed with how he manhandled T.J Watt when they played Wisconsin. He made that guy look like a little kid trying to play against a grown man. I encourage you guys to watch it on youtube. There are 3-4 other complete games of his on there too, which to me, is more interesting than watching the highlight cut ups.

I just hope the best player plays, not the guy Ron is most comfortable with for god knows what reason.

Just say it. Ron loves his vets. In the past he has let his conservatism rule the day. Perhaps there's a change in the air this year though.

It may have taken a hammy to get Byrd in the conversation, but he has pushed the coaches to get him time with the first team. If the Texans game is any indication, then maybe Moton will push the coaches to get him some time with the first team as well.

I don't know about week 1 but it is inevitable. Williams has never looked good IMO. I never understood his appeal.

Pretty sure the biggest factor in who plays is position coach first. Matsko is the one who has the most influence in such things

    • Aww that is soo sweet of him 😀
    • Yeah, I'm not back for sure, just lurking during the off-season. Can't post anything someone may disagree with without it being taken as some personal attack. Anyway, yeah, Nikishin will be on the 2nd pair with Burns. RBA's exit presser really sounded like Burns will move down to the 2nd line. Slavin-Chatty Nikishin-Burns Ghost-Walker Morrow
    • I dont think this is the flex you think it is.  He said this, and then went on to have the worst 2 starts in arguably historyto start the season.  Which in turned gave DC no other option then to bench.  So yeah,  focusing on the offseason obviously matters.  So dunking on the netflix folks looks pretty embarrassing all things considered.   qb rating of 6 and 10.      "I was kind of away from football for the most part, just living every other aspect of my life. Just hanging out, being around family, being around friends, getting back to a routine that doesn't revolve as much around football. For me, it was still being able to just enjoy and work out, but the Xs and Os actual football part, kind of stepping away from it." "Legit, it sounds boring, like I'm holding something out, but I'm not. But it's really like I watch YouTube, I watch TV, I watch Netflix, and every once in a while, I'll go someplace to maybe look at some clothes or something. There's nothing really cool that I'm just trying to hang onto. I'm definitely kind of a homebody. I'm an only child, so I'm used to being able to just chill on my own. That's how I decompress. So it's really just that."
