Funchess Said He Doesn't Have Anything To Prove...

2nd round pick that David Gettleman (who was released) moved up to get... and yeah I'm going to bring back a quote from last year

Quote

“I think we just knew where Benjamin was the whole time. Funchess, we weren’t worried about him. It was Kelvin Benjamin,” Munnerlyn said to reporters after the game. “I’m just going to be honest. Me personally, and I never talk like this, but I don’t think he is that good, No. 17. So, we weren’t really worried about him. We were worried about Benjamin and Ted Ginn Jr. and Corey Brown. We knew they were getting the ball and receiving well. We just tried to communicate and make plays.”

Hmm.... Munnerlyn can play it off as trash talk now that he's with us, but for a person to make an exception to really down you, says something. Now Munnerlyn is entitled to his own opinion as each of us are, but it weighs a little more from a defensive player and it weighed even more as they proceeded to shut down our offense in the 2nd half.

Back to the main point as Rivera implied the offense will look to Funchess more this season, you have a lot to prove to be a reliable target for a team trying to make its way back to the Superbowl. Also, just to touch back our GM, a new GM means a different point of view of the roster, Funchess should keep that in mind. I'm not feeling the nonchalant attitude as if he's being questioned as a multi-year pro-bowl player, and it makes me question his drive as a player to be the best WR. Funchess need to be posting numbers in the 700-800 range this season

Evidently his job is safe no matter what, so why would he feel like he has anything to prove? Most of the posters on here think that I hate Funchess, but I really don't. I just want to see some heat put on him so that we can see if he has it or not. We just keep coddling him and he keeps disappearing on Sundays. Something has to happen to break the cycle or we need to just move on.

Have this gut feeling Funch won't be with us in a couple years.. Something's missing from the dude.. don't know if it's drive, talent, or whatever. Didn't watch the whole video so I'm not sure how that was said, but you ALWAYS should have something to prove. Even if you're a GOAT. What else drives you to get better if you don't? And we all know Funchess has plenty to prove. You won't to be a pro-bowler? Prove it. You want to be a #1 option? Prove it. You want to be a HOF'er? Prove it. I sure hope he proves me wrong, but I doubt it!

The NFL is a satisfaction now league. I'm still optimistic for Funchess. He's not a number 1 receiver so we need to lower our expectations a tiny bit. He has shown great promise and I really believe that Lance Taylor and Jericho Cotchery are going to work hard to get the most out of him and to correct his weaknesses. He has the talent and ability. We just need to get it out of him. I don't think anyone behind closed doors is "coddling him"

Many here overreact to a few words in a stressful environment for young players. I am sure he understands it's an important year for his pro career.

Perhaps he feels he can perform better if he doesn't put too much pressure on himself.

Let the year play out, then make your judgements based on what he does on the field, not in a press conference.

Target him like we do in practice and youl see what we have in him

hard to produce when you are the 3rd/4th option in an offense with an enemic play caller running retarded long developing routes and a QB with a bum shoulder that is getting donkey punched.

Blaming funchess is the easy, lazy, stupid thing to do when trying to figure out what went wrong last year.

    • Fair enough. I never once said not supporting Tepper makes you a bad fan by the way. I can't stand the guy myself. You on the other hand don't like anything about the team. You can't stand the owner or the coach because his religion doesn't fall in line with how you feel it should so I'm curious why you are even a fan at this point? Hell, you like nothing about the team, why even be a fan these days?  We can go backs and forth about how many games we have been to and measure dicks if you want or but it doesn't matter. I've been to my fair share over the years. Some as a fan and some work related but I bet you have been to more due to my weekends being filled with some work I do at the collegiate level so I probably only average maybe 2-3 games per year tops. You have me beat there im sure. You are probably very correct on us not being the same in anything at all I am quite sure of that. If I'm a "mark" (as you put it) for not liking Tepper and not caring about Canales religion or his political beliefs or letting it have weight on whether or not I like the team then call me a "mark" but you're still a whiny bitch either way.  When you hate everything about leadership from their personalities to their religious beliefs all the way to who they vote for at that point why even be a fan? I can side with you judging by your beliefs that you have made apparent, if you owned and coached the team, I sure as hell would find a new one to support but as you said we are different. Enjoy Norway, it is a beautiful country. Visited last year myself and absolutely loved it.
    • The playing well part, depends on what happens going forward. It could have been a tease that will dig our hole deeper.  In the small picture of one game, probably his best game. Green Bay wasn't as great as people think it was. More like one good quarter. Followed by two games of exactly nothing.
    • Oh, it was handled horrifically.  Ego got in the way of a plan.  I'm just saying, that he actually probably stumbled into the better outcome/plan.
