Beane makes his first big moves. Trades Sammy Watkins, but gets Jordan Matthews. Also trades a 3rd rounder for Ronald Darby.

Matthews is a sure handed steady locker room guy that is always on the field. Watkins of course is better and more explosive but gets hurt a lot, completely unreliable.

Darby and Gaines have opposite careers going, Darby had it tough last season and Gaines greatly improved.

The big picture is getting 2 lower ceiling but reliable replacements in addition to a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Time will tell if these players were good trades but buffalo now has 6 picks in the first 3 rounds next year, and I would say that gives them great prospects.

so I feel the Bills are better on paper now. Watkins is probably screwed going to the Rams unless Goff makes a giant leap,.. I'm saying he won't and he's a bust. What do I know though, maybe I'm wrong and he balls out.

philly is better defensively, and we will see just how much they miss Matthews.

They'll end up sweeping the Jets and splitting with the Dolphins, and middle on the fringe of the top 10-15 with their pick.  They'll likely need some or all of those picks to get into the top 3-5 and get the QB they really want at long last.

Seems the only people who think this was a good move are Panther fans looking for an excuse to complain about Richardson.

If he made these moves signifying rebuild here you all would crucify him.

I don't need an excuse to complain about Jerry. He made a really, really bad decision and instead of owning up to it like a man he's been radio silent.

im still not sure why fans are giving the panthers a pass on this debacle. If Jerry believes he's bigger than the Panthers are we Panthers fans or Jerry Richardson fans

You're comparing apples and oranges. This was most definitely a good move for the Bills, who are in a completely different situation than us.

Time has made for fuzzy memories around here, but for years Hurney was regarded as a "cap guru" of sorts.

Anyway, Beane has his work cut out for him. If you thought Hurney was despised here, Beane has no idea what he's in for in Buffalo lol.

Only to those that didn't pay attention to the cap.

It would infuriate me every time I hear someone say that back then.

Most everyone is pissed about it but at the end of the day its about enjoying a day with your family and friends.  Iys certainly nothing to gather a group and March on tge city with tiki torches and buttoned up golf shirts.

I have full faith and apparently so does Beane that McDermott will find upside value in Matthews and Gaines to make the Bills better. I can see it especially with Gaines, we've done well with young CB's and McDermott was a big part of that. He should be able to continue the trend in Buffalo. Enough's been said about Watkins being made of glass so I do see the positive in that trade. They have Zay Jones from ECU, don't forget that, and if McCoy can stay healthy their offense won't suffer at all. I can't wait for the Bills game! It's gonna be the Sean vs Steve game!

The Dolphins without Tannehill?

Just a guess.  I certainly can see them winning against the Saints in Buffalo, a game that both teams will be wishing they lost months later during draft season.  Best guess is they're picking somewhere between 10-15 with their own pick.

McDerp? Since when does he deserve to be mocked like an idiot?  He did good things here and was a stand up person..

Good for the bills. Beane would have been great here.

Plenty of posters called him McDerp while he was our DC. I didn't just make this up. Where have you been ?

I think its a great move. Sammy didn't really fit there.. he is a athletic ted ginn. I think Jordan Matthews is one of the best route runners and has solid hands with great potential.

Darby seems like it hurt to give up.

It would be interesting to see the NFL make more trades like MLB. Draft picks carry a lot of weight in a trade.

    • After the Chiefs game a 6'5 X would really help in the Red zone. I would also love to add Slayton in FA
    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
