Beane makes his first big moves. Trades Sammy Watkins, but gets Jordan Matthews. Also trades a 3rd rounder for Ronald Darby.

This seems like a good couple of trades for the Bills. Matthews ~ Watkins b/c Sammy hasn't been able to stay on the field. A friend/bills fan also doesn't like Watkins and thinks he is lazy. I really only see what happens when either one plays us but it seems like a solid deal. I remember Matthews roasting us when he was a rookie I believe.

Buffalo will have multiple picks in the 2018 draft:

1st Round - 2 picks

2nd Round - 2 picks

3rd Round - 1 picks (was 2 picks until the later Matthews trade)

This wasn't a move for now...it was a move so that in 2-3 years they can compete in their division when Brady is older and close to retiring.

Watkins never lived to the hype and couldn't stay on the field.  Bill didnt have intentions in resigning him after this year, hence them declining his 5th year options this year.  They did what we did with Ealy.  He's not part of the future so might as well get something for him.  To get a 2nd for him is a absolute Steal, I really didn't see them getting anything more than possibly a early 4th for him.

And Matthew's has played about as well and stayed on the field more than Watkins recently, he's had more yards than Watkins their 1st 3 seasons.

They aren't beating the Pats this year, but they still could have some W's.  Jets look like they are tanking and the dolphins are a mess right now (Tannehill, Jarvis Landry contract mess/domestic battery allegations, and 2nd round pick LB tore his ACL last nigt in the preseason game)  Bills should have a easy road to 2nd place in the division behind the Pats.

Then you give Beane who is a great talent evaluator,  2 1st, 2 2nds, and 2 3rds to play with in the next draft is big.  That's also huge for a new Coach/GM who wants to build his team and transform from the old regime to the new

If Taylor pans out good, if he doesn't.  Imagine how mad division rival Jets would be winning just too many games and get the #2 pick and the Bills trade the 2 1st and 2nds moving up to #1 for the guy the Jets spent a whole season to tank in Darnold.

Big win for the Bills

They have 2 3rds I believe.  Eagles sent their 3rd and Matthews for Darby

Interesting move for the Bills. Buffalo have no shot to win the division as long as Brady plays, so might as well clean house and collect young pieces for the future. If Beane is as great a talent evaluator as we and his peers say, then all those early draft picks next year will be huge.

Good job by Beane and makes our losing him that much worse.

For me, I think Buffalo made the right move for the future considering the Pats aren't going anywhere in the AFC East.

Watkins is the superior WR and Darby the superior CB, but Matthews will still produce though he's not necessarily the kind of WR that Taylor needs.

Watkins & Matthews drafted in '14 ---

Watkins: 153 rec - 2459 yds - 17TD

Matthews: 225 rec - 2673 yds - 19TD

Watkins is the better WR, but since being drafted Matthews has been a steady weapon, though he hasn't progressed to that elite WR1 that he looked like he could be. If I'm a GM and I have to choose between these two, I'm taking Watkins everyday, but I think in the big picture, Beane will win come out a winner in the big picture with this.

Now Bills fans, they have the problem bc their former GM gave up a LOT to move up for Watkins in 2014. Different regime in charge now, but it's gotta be tough being a Buffalo sports fan.

The luxury I have is I'm no college football homer, could care less where they are drafted from.

and yes the Bills are better. They replaced Watkins production with a healthier more reliable receiver and EJ Gaines is not that much worst than Darby.

Watkins is always one snap from being off the field for a season. Happened in college and again in the pros.

Who said the best attribute of any athlete is to be available?

then they pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd to go along with the extra 1 they have too.

so yes they are better now and better in the future.

Darby is one hell of a player, like just not CB, but overall young talented legit NFLer. He must not fit the type of zone D mcderp wants, he's a great man-to-man guy. Watkins has already been talked about enough, talented but super injury-prone. Matthews seems just like all the guys in these trades, bad fit for the system.

Big shoutout to Jerry Richardson for making irrational moves and firing our GM after an excellent replacement was waiting in the wings

good move by buffalo. I still love Watkins but a second rounder for him at this point in his career is pretty incredible. Very similar to when we traded for Olsen

And there own picks should be high ones. Complete rebuild.

Matthews is a sure handed steady locker room guy that is always on the field. Watkins of course is better and more explosive but gets hurt a lot, completely unreliable.

Darby and Gaines have opposite careers going, Darby had it tough last season and Gaines greatly improved.

The big picture is getting 2 lower ceiling but reliable replacements in addition to a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Time will tell if these players were good trades but buffalo now has 6 picks in the first 3 rounds next year, and I would say that gives them great prospects.

so I feel the Bills are better on paper now. Watkins is probably screwed going to the Rams unless Goff makes a giant leap,.. I'm saying he won't and he's a bust. What do I know though, maybe I'm wrong and he balls out.

philly is better defensively, and we will see just how much they miss Matthews.
