Beane makes his first big moves. Trades Sammy Watkins, but gets Jordan Matthews. Also trades a 3rd rounder for Ronald Darby.

I think this is a good move for the Bills. They know damn well they have no chance to win their division this year with or without  Watkins, who only played in 8 games last year and has had some kind of injury most his time in Buffalo anyway.  They want to build through the draft and now they have a couple of extra picks to work with.

Can't get tweets to post for some reason, but the Bills have 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 2 3rds next year...not too shabby of a rebuild in what could be a nice draft.

They're taking a page from Cleveland's book, as far as  how they set themselves up for this year's draft.

Thinking outside the box! I certainly didn't know that Beane was such a guy. It shows me that he is a real student of the game, and has his pulse on not only his team, but perhaps all the others as well. The shackles are off, we'll see what some of these younger cats have in store for the league.

I absolutely hate that we lost what looks like a forward thinking wheeler-dealer.

To be fair, Hurney was regarded this way early on as well when he was making big splashes. I'm not saying Beane is going to end up the same way. But it's easy to look like a "forward thinking wheeler dealer" when you're just getting started, it's not until you begin to see the long term ramifications of these moves in question that you get a clearer picture.

Um Hurnmiester was about giving away draft picks for overvalued draft prospects. Hurn was big in the FA and local talent/groomed. Big contracts and terrible draft trades.

Great moves by Beane.

Watkins - 5th year option wasn't picked up so basically a FA after this year. Got a 2nd for a guy they weren't going to resign.

I like that move a lot. Build for the future.

Also a reminder, Buffalo is in a completely different spot than the Panthers. These types of moves wouldn't have been done if he were here.
