Southward and McCray don't need to be diamonds. They need to be decent backups and substitutes and special teams.

I thought he exploded to the ball when he played. He also seemed to have that TD aggressive tackle down as well..like him from game 1.

Tre Boston would have slowed down on that play and let him break for a TD... in all seriousness, I hope Southward can supplant Colin Jones as the 3rd safety.

This play caught my eye... really sheds the block nicely and makes the play. Kept the Texans from getting a first down on 3rd and 1. Led to the Damiere Byrd TD. 

Yes as I was watching I really praised his effort on that play. Not only that but he stopped him short of the marker, even more impressive.

Southward weighs 185 lbs, his hair weighs about 27 lbs.

Still a few safetys available and keep an eye out for cuts. Not a believer in any of the current backups there, jones is mainly a STer.

Of the two, I say McCray had an overall better night. This play is a good one, but there were plenty more where Southward just looked completely lost in coverage. Like, not even sure where to line up pre-snap lost.

 

McCray was hitting folks with abandon, and kept with his assignments better. Was he perfect? Not by any means, but as a backup, I feel he'd be the better fit for us. I'm also not adverse to looking for outside help once cuts start to be made as well. nothing wrong with bringing in more competition.

To all you people that are saying you do not want him, are you guys saying it because he PLAYS like Trey Boston or he LOOKs like Tre Boston?

I'll admit at first glance, I thought it was Tre Boston.
