Just looking down the road a piece. If CMC becomes the all-purpose  monster for his first three seasons, I can easily see us paying him (and perhaps justifiably so). You lock generational talents up early, especially a family-centric organization like this one. It's going to depend upon CMC.

I think that it's kind of a stretch to say that signings today won't affect signings even five years from now. These contracts aren't signed on an island. You can't look at most of these things in and of themselves, you have to look at trends. The pay for RBs is trending up.

I mean, it depends. It's pretty much always stupid (and may not be allowed be the CBA on rookie deals) to extend someone when they still have multiple years left on their deal. Only reason would be a huge underpayment and threatening to hold out from a core player but that won't happen with McC on his rookie deal.

Your lack of football---err, personnel knowledge rears it's head so much around this place. I am not going to play Gooby's World of Delusions vs. Reality Wach-A-Mole with you today.

Just stop talking football, Coleman better than Freeman lol

Over a dozen backs really? Please name all of them. Freeman is the only RB to go over 1000 yards in the last two years and has a combined 27 touchdowns.

His feet and cut back ability are elite along with his pass catching ability out of the backfield.

People on here still think Stewart who hasn't rushed for 1000 yards in 7 YEARS, who just finished with 3.8 ypc and hasn't played all 16 games in god knows how long, is a top 10 back.

But since Freeman plays for the Falcons "he's overrated hurr durr"

I will politely disagree.  While he is okay, he was meh before their line got their current Center.

He was also a rookie that year playing for a HC that played a washed up SJax over him. Last 2 years he has more yards from scrimmage than any other RB, with 27 TDs.

He also rushed more times in that year.  Almost forty more times.  Don't necessarily think he is that good, and he is awful at pass protection.

He had a 4.0 YPC in 15 and a 4.8 YPC in 16. How are those bad numbers?

He's fine at pass pro, blowing one block, even in the super bowl, doesn't make him bad at pass pro any more than cam not recovering a certain fumble in the super bowl  means he can't recover fumbles.

This isn't Hurneyesque at all. For one, it's a 6 year 41 mil deal, the 8.25 figure is for the new money and is mainly for bragging rights. Cap hits from the numbers so far for the first 3 years:

17  4.3 mil cap hit

18  5.mil cap hit

19  6.75 mil cap hit

Nothing past 3 years is guaranteed.

Exactly .. I can't wait to see how Saca feels about this. I know it'll be comical. "Worse contract ever." Bahahaha

Don't know why people are trying to downplay devonte like he's a scrub. Dude is a beast. If they set the contract up right they'll get him in his prime than cut him when he starts to decline. RBS have a short shelf life so if they can cut with minimal cap hit between years 3-5 it's not a bad deal for how much he means to that teams run and passing game.
