Lots of thoughts on this on wiki but this stuffs a trip.  This might be one of those issues that are too big for the mind to ponder for most people but it does appear things are heading this way.  Thought it was worth posting, might interest someone...

if it happens it won't be because we lost a competition with fitter species, it'll be because human technology outpaced collective human foresight. or maybe more interestingly human thoughtlessness may outpace the technological ability to live on other planets and exist off the earth before it goes to complete poo

If the Yellowstone Super Volcano went off, EMP attack, or power grid failure, most of us would be poo out of luck.

If a cell tower goes dark for a couple hours, people lose their minds.

If the internet goes out for a bit, people lose their minds.

If the threat of snow approaches in the south, people raid grocery stores.

If any of the things you listed happen, imagine the above examples thousands-fold.

    • Yeah but jumping up in the draft to get a project #2/3 WR is just plain not smart. I am down on XL because the thought was that he could be a potential #1 WR and he has been anything but that so far. Also, the idea of him as a slot is even more upsetting because you pass on several more productive slot guys(McConkey being the most obvious) that were TREMENDOUSLY more NFL ready. I was not a fan of the XL move at the time and I am not a fan of the decision in short term hindsight either. He is just simply going to have to be a guy that proves it on the field to me. McMillian was my #1 WR in this draft and I was a pro-McMillian guy. However, he isn't gonna get treated with baby gloves either. We are in the era of rookie WR's putting up 1k+ yd seasons with regularity. He's going to(barring injury) have to be one of the top 2 or 3 WR's in this class in terms of production. And that's being very generous to him. He really needs to be THE guy from this class. It isn't like he is gonna have a lot of guys taking catches away from him.
    • Thought this was an interesting moment of candor. See the 2:00 min mark. TD said he made the decision that he wanted T-Mac as our 1st round pick back in January. Dan chimed in and said he made the decision early as well (indicating the same time frame).
