The Average NFL Fan Will Watch 23.5 Hours Of Commercials And Only 4.1 Hours Of Game Action.

These statistics seem to be extremely misleading. Pre-snap time should be included in game action. I'd rather see a percentage breakdown of just 2 categories. Commercial or game. I'd be curious to see how much of the roughly 3 hours a Panthers game lasts there are commercials on the screen (if you never switch channels).

It's actually not even close - in a 3 hour game, there is only 11 minutes of action.

http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-nfl-television-broadcast-2014-11

A study by the Wall Street Journal in 2010 showed that an average NFL game has just 11 minutes of actual action based on the amount of time the ball is actually in play. While a lot of other things do go on in between plays, that leaves a lot of time that networks must fill during a typical 3-hour broadcast.

Well, according to Vox.com, most of that time is spent just showing players standing around and doing nothing. During one recent NFL game, the network broadcast spent 35% of the game showing players just standing around. That would be approximately 64 minutes of inaction during a typical game. Another 24.5% of the broadcast was dedicated to commercials, meaning more than half of the game is either commercials or players standing around.

That is football. The time in between plays has always been part of the game. Suddenly classifying it as "players just standing around" is disingenuous.

I don't even have cable, and really don't miss it. I'll see the highlights eventually, and scores are updated everywhere. Now I will flip to the other channel on occasion if there's a team I'm interested in, but commercials are practical breaks for me. I usually check scores, discuss the game, and do other things during commercials. I rarely look at them.

Exactly. Red zone mostly just shows the scores, which are on all the highlight shows anyway. Why waste money on this stuff, unless you're doing it for FF, which I don't play.

They show ALL the scores for EVERY game, and all of those aren't on highlight shows.

And it's not a waste, when others waste it on magazines, video games, etc.  I love Red Zone.  Plus, I get the student discount.  So I get Sunday Ticket for 25 bucks a month.  ;).  Keep up the hate though, bruh.

Also, you clearly don't love football like myself.  So..............

You should try FF, just refuse to play for money. It can be fun and informative. I've played in a league for years. We don't play for anything but bragging rights, and enough smack talk has gone under the bridge that bragging rights are extremely fulfilling. Money is not necessary (and in a way takes the pure fun out of the game as a whole) and neither is Red Zone because apps are constantly updating the scores.

I only play for money in my Leagues.  The other Leagues I didn't play for money in, everybody quit and stopped caring..............

It may not be a waste for you but it is for me. I'm not hating on anybody or anything. I'm simply telling you that I don't want or need Red Zone. Why does that bother you so much?

So, in your statement above.  You call Red Zone a waste of money, you don't say for yourself, you're speaking in generalities.  But yet, you're talking about yourself?  Na man, you're speaking in general.  Just state "for myself, Red Zone is a waste of money.  For others, it might not be a waste of money."  Just FYI.

I have no desire to play FF either. So what? You guys can play all you want and I will never complain about it. I will watch the other games that are on regular cable just because it's football but if I miss a few plays I will not lose one second of sleep over it. I'm a Panthers fan. That's what I care about the most.

Some of you guys would believe anything you read. This chart CANNOT be accurate.

You believe there are more shots of players standing around than legit game action per broadcast? I think they probably show the crowd and cheerleaders more than they do players standing around.

Get this crap out of here.

I mean it's probably true tbh the way that it is broken down. Game action is so low because Football is basically 30 seconds calling a play and lining up, 10 seconds maybe for a play. Then add in penalties, re-spotting the ball, shots of Ron Rivera's stoic Ron face, and you really aren't left with much action.

I make people want to beat me with as much smack as I've talked.

We've had a few nincompoops in the past couple of seasons who didn't set their roster or lost interest (from being beat down), but I went to a three message boards (including here [but no bites]) and explained the situation and we acquired very game opponents. I'm expecting full participation this year, but if not I'll be back on the boards looking for a player or two.

This will be our ninth or tenth year.
