Hornets Signed Isaiah Hicks

New thread, but @YoungPanthers89 shouted this out on the Marcus Paige thread

Not sure if this is a contract at the vet minimum for an actual roster spot or if it's a training camp invite with a chance to make the team and play in Greensboro if he doesn't (most likely).

Hicks had a nice summer league season with the Clippers and looked good in the limited amount of time I saw him. He has the body and athleticism to play in the league, but just needs to develop a jumper. Good developmental piece.

Lololol

What a troll.

Yeah, this organization is trash for signing Hicks and Williams to training camp deals (the same thing they did with Mike Tobey last year). The Hornets might be poorly run but it's not because MJ is signing Tar Heel's to two-way contracts and training camp deals.

agreed.. look at any franchise in any sport - they bring in 'Local boys' for tryouts all the time.. Panthers do it. Patriots, Lakers.. whoever..

Aside from the recent 2-way contracts - the only other Tarheel we have on our roster is Marvin.. matter fact since MJ has been part owner of the team the most "Heels" we ever had on the squad was 2 -- and sometimes we've had more Dukies than Heels

Heels in [...] Dukies in (...)

You know that the D-league isn't really a farm league for the NBA?  They might have 2 players switch between the D-league team and riding the bench on the Hornets.  It's not like baseball or hockey.  Not many starters and stars emerge from the D-league.  They're might be two or three since that league started.

I'd bring in a lot of UNC players too if I owned a team there....drive them sales.

Hicks and Paige were two of the elite talent in the NCAA helping UNC all the way to the big dance (Hicks did it twice). One was Roy William's favorite player of his long coaching tenure with amazing leadership and clutch moments. The other an athletic freak with a high ceiling. He's not signing Stillman White here. Not really sure what more you're looking for when it comes to prospective NBA talent.

Sweet a bunch of average players outside of Whiteside and Gortat. Rattling off names doesn't change that the NCAA remains as the primary farming mechanism for the NBA. The NBDL for the most part shelters bench players. Not game changers.

Danny Green one of the best 3 and D players in the NBA. There are decent situational and role players that come out of the DLeague. No one expects an All-Star or All-NBA player to come from the DLeague.
