When it comes to the looming contract negotiation between the New York Giants and Odell Beckham Jr., the head of the franchise said it’s not if but when the star receiver gets a megadeal from the team.

“He deserves to get paid,” Giants co-owner John Mara said Friday. “We’re going to pay him. It’s just a question of when we enter into the contract, and I don’t have a timetable on it right now. I just don’t think there’s any need to rush into it. He’s going to end up getting paid at some point.”

Beckham turned some heads Thursday when a video posted to UNINTERRUPTED showed him saying: “I believe that I will be hopefully not just the highest-paid receiver in the league, but the highest paid, period.”

Mara said he appreciated Beckham’s goal to be the highest-paid player but couldn’t think of a realistic scenario in which he would reach that.

“The quarterback is always going to be the highest-paid player,” Mara said.
