HurneyMagic? Amini Silatolu Doesn't Look Half Bad As A LT

So, remember that time Marty Hurney was talking about switching some players' position?

Quote

In some cases, Hurney suggested moving a player from one position to another” Rivera said.

Perhaps Amini might've been a part of that recommendation.

At first, many Panther fans groaned at the idea. I mean seriously, Amini as our 2nd string backup LT? What kind of messed up idea is that?

It only worsened when reports came out of Amini being dominated in training camp surfaced. In the first few days without pads, it appeared as if Amini was the definition of a turnstile as everyone took advantage of him.

However, looks like today told a different story.

On one rep against Horton, Amini showed a lot of promise as good depth. Take a look below:

Now, I understand Horton's primarily a run stuffer, but I want everyone to watch Amini. His technique is picture perfect, holding off Horton and standing him up. Amini utilizes clean and fast footwork to further limit Horton on the rush and keeping up with him.

Beautiful footwork and play.

Maybe Hurney does have a bit of magic in him after all.

WHo is 96?

Look I've been following the Panthers since the start if kalil+gino are "healthy" this is the best group of OGs and Cs in 22 years. Amini looked great in 4 or so games he replaced Norwell, most of the other 20+ were poor. He justs get hurt, nicked, and injured far too much, IMO. Its numbers deal always, Panthers should carry 8-10(i say 9), every spot has tough competion, except backup LT. Herniay watched Aminis' college tape and fell in deep love, sad that Cordy Glenn as the next pick.

Well, he actually does have fast enough feet to keep up with speed rushers. I'm not counting on him ever being a full time starter but if he can somehow develop into an improved Remmers, it would be well worth it depth regardless of side.

IIRC, Mayock talked about Amini potentially being an All-Pro player when he was drafted, it just never surfaced. One thing is certain, I never want to see Trai Turner on the outside again. Last year was a crazy.

Amen on Trai and playing OT. Ever. Ever. Ever.

Yep. Remember the 49ers playoff game?

No thanks. He looks good at practice but Amini gets overpowered. Maybe he's a decent match for a speed rusher like Beasley... but an overall DE like Quinn or Wake? Or even bull rushers?

Amini will get run over.

Yep. I don't want him starting, but I'm hoping he'll be okay as a backup.

No he supposed to be our hope even glimpses of ability in a player should be welcome with warm positive arms I'm so sick of this board it's so pessimistic at times I just have to log off. I mean I understand being levelheaded but the season hasn't even started yet can't we all be excited and isn't exaggerating expected . This is the closest stuff we've had to football in months

    • Heels let another team go up 20 on them but this time they complete the comeback. HD never seems to have his team ready but he makes great halftime adjustments. Powell played the majority of the second half and his defense was the difference along with his big three pointer to give the Heels the lead for good. Trimble and Davis were also spectacular. Carolina can’t let Auburn get out to a 20 point lead though, they won’t be able to come back from that.
    • I don't think there is much of a chance we go wr in the first round.  If Young continues to play fairly well, our choice will likely dl, lb, or maybe a slight chance at ol.
