You would still have 3 LBs on the field only his alignment would be just different . The beauty of having 3 top notch LBs is you can stay in base and not tip off the offense for audible when they see a mismatch.

What could possibly happen is that we take a safety out and put in Captain

Having three linebackers on the field does not mean that you are playing in a 4-3 defensive set. A nickel set, when the 3rd linebacker acts as a DB, is still nickel.

Ok, Funchess had less yards and the same amount of TDs in his first two seasons as Benjamin did in his rookie year. Is that a objective stat?

I'm only calling it like I see it. You can continue to write snarky comments, if you like. Funchess underwhelms me. That's my subjective opinion.

So because Funchess, a player with only 1 year of college experience at his position with a QB that should've been playing receiver, hasn't been as productive as Benjamin means we should cut him?

Nickel is when you replace a LB to have 5 defensive backs on the field instead of 4

Having 3 LBs with different alignment just means you have versatile player that can cover which eliminates the need to bring in the 5th defensive back.

Maybe if he was a 5 year vet.

A rookie who altough tremendously is a very raw product at wide receiver most definitely needs the reps. Missing most of OTA's and training camp might set him back weeks when we get to real games... I am crossing my fingers that he gets healthy ASAP

Agreed, especially since he is essentially changing positions as well. It's a lot more important to keep him healthy. Still a lot of time between now and week 1 though and Shep is looking pretty darned good (disclaimer: in practice) so I'm no where near panic mode yet.

I don't know, do you want to cut him? I never mentioned cutting him.
