I am not calling you a liar. Hell, Norman and Cam wrestled for the whole world to see and nobody batted an eye over that. I just stating my opinion that I don't believe it to have been a serious enough of a punch, if it happened at all for that to be why he was cut. I believe it was more for the reasons that Voth stated.

It was a culmination of events that JR kept being lenient on. Supposedly the incident you just mentioned was finally the tipping point.

if exaggeration is the key here it's very possible a heated altercation in an altercation would end up with cam and smith surrounded by a crowd of guys poo-talking, which would make a punch a lot less effective than a haymaker in open space. could've been a scuffle punch.

also hard to imagine cam four years ago NOT talking copious amounts of poo at a guy like steve and steve not being perfectly willing to bust him in the mouth.

don't forget that when cam was a rookie he basically told greg olsen to fug off after a loss. so i wouldn't be surprised if he escalated it. not casting any shadows on cam though, bc he's not prone to sucker punching teammates and never has been.

Ok, after seeing more and more corroboration, i have to believe at the very least, a scuffle happened.  And it sounds like yes, it was Smitty or Cam...

But I go back to my issue with how it was handled...  being that the public didn't know about all this at the time, and it appears the organization was trying to keep up good optics, why didn't Dave give him an honorable way out?  And again, I understand Smitty isn't the type to accept someone else's terms, but if he had no choice, why wouldn't they try?  That was my biggest issue with the release.  Even if Smitty didn't want to accept it, neither Dave nor Ron seemed to honor him in anyway.  And how it played to the media was that Dave basically told Smitty he was on the decline and wasn't worth what he was being paid anymore...  And Dave and Ron never really wavered from that narrative.  That's the confusing part about it all when considering all of this new info.

Lmao at those thinking something like this would be hard to cover up. Jerry runs an incredibly tight ship over there. He pretty much controls the media as it pertains to his panthers in this city and if a reporter were to report something against the team, he would have them blackballed. 

Its why I've never understood all the hate our local reporters get. Those guys have one of the least enviable teams to cover in professional sports due to how closed off the entire organization is from its fan base.

c'mon, it was the leading story on espn for days. it was also out in the open for the world to see. friggin igo or somebody got glamour portraits of it. not sure you can really compare the two.

I don't mind naming my source either...Ricky Prohel....he worked with my brother and I volunteered at Prohelific park. Ricky is such a genuie dude and good guy. He would talk to me for 30-45min at a time about the Panthers and football in general. One night I got up the courage and just straight asked him what he thought of the smitty situation. Shaking his head"Had to he done. Just had to be done. There's so much you guys don't get to see." And then he proceeded to tell me about the Giants game incident. Ill never forget it. So I totally buy this story.

knowing what we know of jerry it's well within his pattern of behavior to demand a moratorium on the story and tell gettleman that smith is untouchable. not hard to imagine tension between gettleman and richardson starting right then and there, if gettleman thinks he's being hired to run a ship independently and keeps finding jerry tangled upside down in the topsail riggings

this could have easily been swept under the rug. you have an owner that wants to keep the image of his player icons squeaky clean and as long as there is no press or other non affiliated hangers-on, and cam has no visible marks (he didn't; honestly it's easy to understand how smith could've gotten one or two shots in but couldn't get a lot behind them in a crowded locker room). and knowing ron's approach to the locker room this is exactly the kind of thing he'd keep clamped shut, especially in the midst of our first winning season in years
 
the other two times were different. smith wasn't an icon when he punched bright yet and in lucas' case, he basically did it during practice in broad daylight with beat writers and jeremy taking pictures and hundreds or thousands of fans in observance.

I just feel like the whole those-situations-were-different-argument seems like a reach. I can agree with the first situation you presented. A typical scrap in a locker room between players, a la Cam/Norman, where both players are scrapping (and are thus, both at equal fault) and Smitty gets two licks in. But if that's the case, I can't see that as being the primary reason for Smitty getting cut. If the situation wasn't serious enough to warrant at least a one game suspension, then I can't buy it being the main reason that Smitty was released.

Page 3 lol ....nah but in 2013 after we beat the Giants at home 38-0 smitty went off and destroyed the locker room to an extreme extent because he didn't get the ball enough. Took it out on Cam, and coaches.

I agree but, at the same, a lot of people have come and gone since 2013. You'd think someone somewhere would have spilled the beans. Not sure what to believe.

the fuged up thing about this is that even if it does blow up and become this huge story, smitty is such a fuging media darling and nobody gives a poo about carolina's problems that ppl will exonerate him and take a poo on cam instead. because ppl are stupid and still can't get over him celebrating touchdowns in 2015.
