People have ridiculed you here numerous times over the years for your lengthy posts with them tharrrrrr big words, and what they consider to be moral posturing.

But now you're going to turn around, and do the same thing?

Weak sauce my man.

not even close to the same thing but i'm not going to get into a slap fight over it with you

Well the huddle itself is one giant slap fight, so no harm no foul either way for me.

As I said though, I am open to a discussion about 89. Also, as I just said to another poster, I am not at all confused about what Steve's legacy here ultimately looks like. It isn't pretty. But I'm not going to listen to someone yack on about him punching people when they were more than willing to give his violent behavior a pass as long as he wore a Panthers uniform and scored touchdowns.

Did Ken Lucas getting sucker punched stop any of you guys from cheering when Steve Smith was spinning footballs on the ground, and angrily getting in opposing players faces week in and week out? Don't even embarrass yourself, and try to say no.

Oh, @uncfan888 @KillerKat, we do have an awful fanbase. Not quite the Browns, but we have some of the most fickle people I've ever encountered posting here. I'm sorry if that truth hurts, but it's the truth nonetheless. Even longtime posters like OP have participated in the trashing of guys like Olsen and TD throughout the last week. What's ironic is the same posters are bizarrely unaware that in doing so they look like complete jack asses for posturing about players getting assaulted as if they actually give a damn.

Regarding your first statement - I cheered for the Panthers, not Steve Smith.  I personally did not enjoy the trash talk and attention-whoring after every catch - but I might be in the minority on here.  Many people might like that.  I'd probably like the guy much more if he could do his job without personal foul penalties and punching his own teammates.

Regarding the second statement - how is fanbase awfulness actually measured?  Is there a ranking out there with objective criteria or is this just hyperbole?

Finally regarding player "trashing", my opinion is that a player under contract should not try to renegotiate his contract through the media.  Not trying to trash anyone with that opinion, just doesn't strike me as very professional.

"I cheer for the team, not the man assaulting people!"

I want you to think about that statement for a moment, and get back to me.

How is the awfulness of our fanbase measured? Well let's see, the lead up to the 2011 draft alone full of racially charged undertones and stereotypes about black quarterbacks and comparisons only to other failed black quarterbacks about the QB who we would go on to draft despite the disdain half our fanbase had for him while he went on to become the MVP of the league and the most important player we've ever drafted might shed some light on that claim.

As for TD and Olsen, they have been two of the most classy professional players we've had in our franchise history. This misplaced outrage because people need someone to blame after Gettleman was shown the door is and has been an embarrassment for this community.

"I cheer for the team, not the man assaulting people!".  I don't know who you are quoting here.  To paraphrase what I said, 'I pull for the panthers success, not the individual player's success'.  If the panthers score, I could care less if it was SS or someone else.  I suppose if a significant number of panthers players were thugs, I might start looking around for other teams to follow.  I guess in hindsight I can tolerate 1-2 prima donas without switching teams.  If I can still pull for the panthers after Rae Carruth killed his girlfriend, I can live with SS sucker punching a teammate (Lucas).  It probably would have been better to get rid of him at that time but clearly JR/Hurney were not capable of this.  They had to bring Gettleman in to do what had to be done.

Regarding fanbases - clearly you decided to pass on this question.  I figured it was opinion, but thought I'd let you take a shot at it.  You seemed so sure of yourself I thought you might have some data.  A couple of tools on a message board does not make millions of fans 'the worst fanbase in the NFL except Cleveland'.

Regarding TD and Olsen, they are great players, good leaders, and do good things in the community.  But I personally do not like using the media to jumpstart contract talks.  I think its a bad look and I believe Olsen actually came out and agreed.  I do not blame these guys for Gettleman.  Jerry is the one that dumped Gettleman so he is the one that gets the "blame".  I don't think it was a good decision and I believe it will hurt the team in the long run.  I've given my wild guess as to why he did it and it had nothing to do with TD and Olsen.

I'm not really gonna step into this again other than to say that I, embarrassingly, did indeed read the whole thread.

I'm sorry, but I am still not at all convinced that "Steve Smith punched Cam Newton in the face... twice."

Yes, I see a couple posters pretty much corroborated an incident taking place. That was never out of the realm of possibility for me.

What wasn't that believable was the accuracy of the rhetoric in the OP, and the ability of it to be kept under wraps until a mysterious stranger in a dark lounge, wielding a mystical cigar and drinking magic potion, felt free to discuss it.

I still cosign TheRed's thoughts on Smitty and the Huddle. Maybe people don't get giddy or however he phrased it, but most people here never avoid the opportunity to throw shade at certain players that aren't here anymore, and Smitty is at the top of that pile.

I'll make jokes about Pickles, Hardy, Armanti Edwards, etc. but some of the stuff people say about former Panthers is straight up vicious and hateful, and that is only a fraction of what Smitty gets.

If I had to pick the former Panther I disliked the most, it would be MeAngelo. But I don't know that I have ever taken it to the level that some people here go out of their way to take it to Smitty every single thread he is mentioned in. Basically, MeAngelo is dead to me... or at least irrelevant.

Also, it isn't hard to make things like this up and get it rolling. I mean, I had a lot of people here hanging on everything I said about having sources, etc. about Pep's situation back in the day because I was just good at guessing and paired it with the ability to scour sources available to anyone that cared enough to try. I don't know or necessarily believe it when people here quote "sources" lol. I learned that a LONG time ago. Until Smitty or Cam confirm this themselves, I'll probably just write it off as a lesser incident than is being portrayed.

Oh I wish it were more than just a few tools on a message board. I really do. Have you ever ventured onto the Panthers Facebook page? Yikes. In 2011 this place was a wasteland. At least close to half this board wanted nothing to do with Newton. Many of them even stuck around and took every opportunity to bash him while declaring themselves "fans of the team, not one player" until the majority of them were finally ran off for good after 2015.

As for the other issues, clearly we aren't going to find a middle ground. But I have seen numerous fans here blasting both TD and Olsen as greedy babies that actively conspired to get Gettleman canned by running to Richardson.

Regarding our owner, I tend to share some of your thoughts. I think JR was thinking about the move for awhile, and at the end of the day, he made it about his own ego. Not sure if we'll ever win a Lombardi with JR at the helm. That's the harsh reality.

I have no problem with 'agree to disagree' between gentlemen.  I Haven't been to the facebook page and have no desire to do so.  I have a hard enough time keeping up with this board.

I suppose all fan bases have their share of douche fans.  I often wonder if some of the posters on here are really Panthers fans or are actually fans of another team and just stirring up poo.  Some of these guys, and you know as well as I who they are, moan about everything.
