gettleman had a series of well documented flaws but if this story is true releasing steve smith was not one of them

Steve Smith wasn't the same that 2013 year. He had to get into two fights with Jenkins and Talib to get fired up, so I'm calling shenanigans on this and he had the injury. We was treating him as the number 1 when really he wanted to just go slot and retire. He was dropping balls like we never seen.. Thats what proceeded Gettleman to cut him, he didn't think he had the high production as once before. Which that led to SS breaking out the next season, he did that cause DG thought he was on the decline.

I can.

A smart guy in a situation like that stays in control and doesn't let himself get rattled.

It's so hard, but this is true. As a former hothead, maintaining control is one of the hardest things to do; especially when provoked or you feel you've been wronged.

I'd be the first to say as a Steve smith Stan, if true releasing him was the right move, but the story itself doesn't really add up, something this severe would get anyone not name luke released the next day. Plus it's coming out 4 years later, interesting nether the less

It actually does make sense. No plausible explanation has been given for cutting Smith like we did and nothing really explained the reason Smith was acting the way he did once released. The fact of the matter is that in most situations like that, a player would likely remain close with guys on the team; it seems that in Smith's "Blood and Guts" comments, a hidden feature of alienation was present. Smith also has a history of punching people while Cam has a history of stepping up to people whenever he feels like it.

Also, it isn't that it's coming out four years later, it's that PhillyB is just now being told the story to share.

Sounds too easy to make up.  Smitty already has a history of punching people, so it makes it easy to connect the dots.  Maybe he and Cam got into an argument and while it telephone gamed down to the smoking buddy it got embellished a bit.  That'd be the easiest thing for me to believe.  If it came out from an actual source (Cam, Steve, Rivera, Gettleman) I'd be disappointed and much more accepting of the decision to cut Steve all those years ago.  But this is one of those stories that is going to be impossible for me to accept unless there's some real evidence.

It did come from Gettlemen. As is the case often with circumstantial evidence, you rarely hear the story directly from the source but you will hear it through others, who happen to have their story corroborated by those on the perimeter of the issue in question.
