yep. scot can probably tell it better but smith went over fox's head to JR and complained about davidson. davidson was told to not talk to his own player. that is the kind of climate jerry has built in BOA. it's unbelievably toxic and the scary part is he's rebuilding a platform to introduce that kind of toxicity back into the organization from the top.

Those are pretty much the essential details. It was reported by Bill Rosinski.

That kind of thing definitely fosters an "inmates running the asylum" atmosphere. I had hoped we were past all that. Gettleman's firing and this story are telling me that maybe we never actually left it.

I just think it's unfair to criticize someone who is obviously helping people who at the bottom of society regardless if they want it known. He's still washing homeless people's feet and giving them shoes. He's taking the time out of his day to do that. It's not like he was just there for a 30 second tv clip. He spends the entire day there doing that.

What he's doing with that is good.  What Cam does with his own Foundation is good.  But for both of those, they have been established with the purpose of (1) primarily doing good and giving back and (2) not insignificantly enhancing the foundation founder's public reputation.

So, yeah, helping the poor is ABSOLUTELY A GOOD THING.  But what are you doing for the poor, the sick, the saddened, or even just the normal person-off-the-street when the cameras aren't on?  I've listed some of the things Cam has been "caught" doing.  Another is the fact that people have seen him come out of nice Charlotte restaurants with to-go bags and given them to the homeless.  Just that kind of off-the-cuff, selfless act.

And those kind of things are inevitably found out.  If Steve Smith was notable for doing such things, I'm sure they've been documented somewhere, right?   All I'm asking (and I have yet to get an answer) is what kind of charitable and/or kind person is Steve Smith Sr. when the cameras aren't pointed at him?

P.S. Christ had a name for those religious who proclaimed their righteousness from the street corner.  Which is why I find things such as spontaneous examples of kindness and charity much more revealing than public, big-business "charity".

Makes me sad, want to like Smith as a person, that he mellowed out as he matured, became a better person.

For those thinking this didn't happen, think you're underestimating how often fights break out inside a locker room. May have been kept quiet simply because the one's that witnessed it didn't think it was unusual enough to mention.

My comment wasn't for a Cam vs smitty debate. Smitty is a dickhead but I'm not gonna judge him for charitable acts out of his own pocket and time because the tv cameras are there. It's petty to me.

Agreed. However I've also heard Cam is a horrible tipper as are many players. But it's always hard to gauge a person in a vacuum. Same with other celebrities. Famous dude goes to a bar just to have a beer an relax. Gets bombarded with questions and people. Dude gets annoyed.Tells a guy to fug off. Now everyone thinks he's an asshole.

it's like watching your favorite oil refinery organize a clean up drive to combat litter in front of the local news

"hey greenpeace! look at us! we're not so bad! we're with it!"

I get the joke, but I work for a refinery and we do a ton of volunteer work for our community and donate so much time and money to United Way and there is no media around to witness any of this. It's one of the best parts of my company (the charitable donations and community volunteering I mean) not all refineries are "bad".

what if only a handful of people/players actually witnessed the altercation?

that would explain how it's been kept quiet for so long.

Plus as I understand the setting, this happened in the locker room, a very closed area.
