RE: Shep and Funchess...

There is no right answer, but IMO, pro athletes are in a unique profession unlike any other.  In Shep's case, his job affords both he and his wife a life most could only dream of.  So, no, he doesn't have to punch a clock to allow them to make it check to check, but the more work he puts in, the more results he gets, the more comfortable life he and his family can live.  I believe family and quality time with your loved ones is the most important thing for anyone, but the problem is, most average joes have to work so much to provide a life for their loved ones that there isnt any free time left.  Pro athletes play a game for a living and the income/lifestyle they earn from it allows them extended time with family during offseasons...  So, considering that, if I was a pro athlete, making millions, I'm pretty sure my wife would understand if I put in extra work in the off-season to secure my place on my team so we can continue living the way we're accustomed to.  I mean, they basically have a 5 month vacation (give or take a few weeks) to do whatever they want as it is...  i think mkst wives would be more than accomodating and understanding considering.

Specifically with Funchess, it just seems like yet another example of a guy not fully engaged, and like he just doesn't view it as a job...  I just don't think he takes his profession very seriously.  Not saying he was wrong in his decision, but it just seems like even if that wasn't his reason for not attending he'd have another... his livelihood doesn't seem very important to him.

I agree Shep could have been there, but with some women, I mean would it had been worth it if she were hate texting him the entire weekend? If it were their first anniversary it might be a little more special.

And Funch, sounds like he is close to his grandpops. If his surgery was going to occupy his mind and cause him not to be focused, it wouldnt have been worth it either. It's all in the head.

I miss my anniversary most years because of work. We just do something the week before or after. It isn't a big deal at all. But if it is to Shep's wife then that's fine too.

Also....I'm friends with Fua's girlfriend. She's pretty banging.

Emphasis on the girlfriend. Likely she has other boyfriends as well.

Talking about creating something out of thin air...

Where are all these examples of "a guy not fully engaged?"

In my opinion, Funchess was perhaps the only receiver who brought his full energy into the game when he got the opportunity last season. Sure, he made a couple of mistakes, but I never got the impression that it's because of not being fully engaged. If anything, he was trying too hard.

Let's say that there is an ounce of truth to your assertion. If the powers that be acknowledge that they didn't get Funchess involved as frequently or in the manner that they should have---basically admitting that he was an afterthought, overlooked after having an excellent camp (and, yes, that's what was said in so many words), do you think that the youngster wouldn't become disengaged on some level?

Sorry, P-Diddy, I ain't buying it, and I see it as conveniently slipping into negative groupthink (which is not the P-Diddy that I know), and/or trying to make sense out of that which has already been explained.  Funchess was raw, is still young, and was "misengaged" (yeah, I just made a word up) by the coaches.
