I think your quote above captures what I've found so bizarre in all of this.  In the past week the narrative has gone that JR is all about relationships and the team being family and that DG was fired for being too brusque & business-like and not valuing loyalty (i.e. possibly considering not extending TD & Greg, two of JR's favorite players....).

Bringing back Hurney surely pointed in that direction too.  The guy who has a long-term relationship with JR, who the players love, who was so much more personal in his relationships with the players and who rewarded "our guys" above all.

But then all of a sudden firing Koncz who has llterally been with the Panthers since Day 1 flies in the face of all that.  You'd think there's be a statement, a "NICE" way of letting him go... "Today we regret to announce that due to necessary organizational restructuring [or "for personal reasons"] we have sadly accepted the resignation of Mark Koncz who has been with the Panthers since their foundation and has been instrumental in blah blah blah..... On behalf of the organization we thank him for his years of sacrifice and dedication to our fans and to our team.... blah blah blah"

At least as of 7 pm  before I went out for the evening, there was no such statement at Panthers.com...[and I just checked, now at Midnight, there's STILL no statement.]  it SEEMS Koncz has been unceremonially given the sudden guillotine chop that everyone said was the kind of thing JR hates.

Makes no sense to me.  But if he stinks as a director of pro personnel, or was promoted too high, I guess it's good he's gone.  It's just all such weird timing.
