Hurney fired Mark Koncz

Insane ramblings of Carl Spackler aside, can anybody think of a legitimate reason why Koncz was fired?

Asking the uninformed public that to think of something that they would not be informed of is absurd.  I suspect many people salivating over this had never heard of him until last week.

Just because she we don't know the interworkings and the dirty laundry doesn't mean it isn't a legitimate termination.  This is a crazy over reaction on all sides

Hahaha if you think this was the right decision than your clueless. No sane person believes Gettleman deserved to be fired. Yes, I am saying at this point of his life Jerry most likely isn't sane.

If you think Gettleman should have been fired and replaced by Hurney, then you deserve 7-9 and mediocrity.

How do you know?.  Unfortunately we only get tidbits and droppings.  Not sure if anyone has actually worked for a company before but there are a lot of things that go on internal to organizations you might not be privy to.

Steady now... you're going to be told here very soon by your "betters" that you're not allowed to have an emotional reaction about this and how you're just being silly and ridiculous.

Just make sure your not one of those "betters" who acts like a jerk whenever fans on this message board get upset about a decision made by the team. Otherwise, this post is very hypocritical. I'm pretty sure you were on the other end during the Norman & Smitty release.

yes you are entitled to that opinion...there are many who think this was a good move but I only go by what i think and besides the timing this was a good move...one that should have happened earlier...Hiring Hurney may bite us but for now we dont know that...7-9 is a step up from last season...now that is a fact

Well, he didn't really have any scouting background before getting a job in the scouting department. He worked his way up from the ticket office, one of those guys Richardson rewarded for "loyalty and hard work" by giving him a job he wasn't really qualified for.

I was actually hoping Gettleman would replace him when he got here, but instead he went with the whole "no changes" thing (something I always thought was a mistake).

So yeah, this move doesn't bother me per se, but why is it happening now?

Gotta admit that's a head scratcher.

It seems kind of crazy that JR would have signed off on his firing after all these years. I sure hope he has a brilliant plan than none of us can see right now.

If our greatest GM hasn't arrived yet than our greatest owner absolutley hasn't either.

That remains to be seen. You may be right. I would think all true Panther fans hope the owners and general managers all are great and help us win consistently. Problem is owners aren't hired and they pretty much can do what they want. The only constraints being winning and losing and putting a consistent winner out there.

Richardson is the owner, and, Lord willing, will be the owner until he sells the team to Mark Cuban :)! I've come to think that J-Rich is an old, surly, cheapskate of a curmudgeon, but I don't in any way think that he's not mentally competent. In fact, he has to have some type of intelligence considering all that he has achieved, and he didn't just get stupid overnight.

Deal with it!

That'd make sense if Richardson didn't already have a long-standing history of bad moves before any of this ever happened.

The most successful period this franchise ever had coincides with Richardson stepping out of the way and letting people with a better track record of football success than him do the work. Likewise, the franchise's worst moments came at times when he was the most involved.

You can't ignore that correlation.

This petty tug of war between fans arguing about what Hurney did or what Gettleman did has morphed into some seriously pitiful buffoonery.

Stop crying about Gettleman, stop complaining about Hurney, stop bitching about the players being greedy, and start looking at the one man in front of it all.

Koncz was a guy that probably didn't deserve being promoted in the first place. And unfortunately, that kind of thing has been known to be a fault of Richardson's for a long time.

That said, him now signing off on the firing of a guy whose loyalty he improperly rewarded is a strange sight.

Gotta wonder what the hell's going on here.

It is very simple. Gettleman was disrupting Jerry's Good Ole Boys Club. He bit the bullet on Gross and Smith because of how bad it would look if he meddled so early into the Gettleman hiring and after a playoff appearance.

The way Josh Norman was handled definitley crushed him, but how could he justify firing Gettleman after a 15-1 Super Bowl appearance season.

They fell to 6-10 this year and Jerry clearly wasn't happy. He finally found an opportunity to meddle and he jumped all over it.

Voth reported earlier in the offseason that Gettleman was under strict orders to spend money this offseason. This offseason was not a Gettleman offseason at all and looking back at it you can now see Jerry's fingerprints all over it.

Matt Kalil-the brother of one of Jerry's favorite players.

Julius Peppers-former Panther

Captain Munnerlyn-former Panther

Both Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel are not Dave Gettleman type players. It was widely reported how much Jerry Richardson fell in love with Christian during his pre-draft visit. I have no doubt in my mind if Richardson didn't meddle, this offseason would have been much different.

The final straw was Thomas Davis (forget Greg Olsen). Davis is Richardson's favorite player on the team. The two players he is closest to are Charles Johnson and Thomas Davis, this is a fact. Don't downplay how the Charles Johnson contracts of the past two season played a role in this as well. He knew how popular Davis was with this fan base and how after a 6-10 disappointing season, he could get away with making the change now.

To the credit of the majority of this fan base, the idiot was wrong, and people are pissed. To the minority who support this move, it is just a shame. They will forever be Jerry Richardson shills who are willing to put up with mediocrity as long as their hero is running the team. As I've said in past threads, as we continue to mature as a fan base, mediocrity will no longer be accepted and fans like that will be weeded out.

Ownership like this isn't accepted in big markets. Teams would never get away with this in Boston, Philly, or NY. Accountability is demanded by the fans and the media, something this city is in dire need of.
