Death of a Gettleman: JR is at best Carolina's Tragic Hero

I'm with Frash 110% on this. Gettle is the fuggin man and he had this team heading in the right direction because of his plan and cap management. We all could see that continued and sustained success was in our future plans and the future of the franchise was bright.

Will I be at the games? Yes. Will I be watching every week? Yes. But this move just leaves a sour taste, and it'll be hard to defend them after they let the best damn GM we've ever had walk simply because he did his job, but some players got their feelings hurt.

we're truly fuged if jerry chooses marty as the heir to inherit the ownership of the team

at that point i'd rather they move to vegas. it's not like i live in the carolinas anyway.

Why would he do anything different. If JR wanted a SB he would have kept Dave. He just couldn't stand not meddling in the day to day. It's like a manager that looks over your shoulder every day and says that cheese sauce needs 10 stirs not 11.

yea and it almost makes me wonder if he would've been gone after 2015 if it wasn't for the superbowl appearance

I think JR's feelings were conflicted when it came to Dave Gettleman.

Dave's ways were so foreign to JR that Gettleman might as well have been from another planet.  However, DG was getting good results and straightening out the mess that Hurney had left behind, so JR suppressed his instincts to can him.

Fast forward a few years... the team is now set up for success and the finances are under control.  JR decides to say fug it and returns to his comfort zone.  He fires Dave and hires Marty... again.

By the next time the Panthers go to hell in a handbasket, chances are good JR will have already secured a Lombardi Trophy so what does he care?  He will be happier knowing there is a group of loyal, overpaid, football players singing his praises.

Note:  If this scenario actually comes to pass, I'd like to think JR would be man enough to do the right thing and give Dave a SB ring and some credit for his efforts.

Gettleman required only 4 years to achieve the same level of success Hurney had 12 years to achieve.
What makes Dave's accomplishment even more impressive is that he did with one hand tied behind his back thanks to being strapped for cash due to Hurney behaving like Santa Claus when it came to contract negotiations.
Gettleman also had to overcome an environment where certain players were coddled and doted on by ownership, undermining Dave's ability to transition the franchise from a losing culture to a winning one.

Wrong.... Hurney was in the Superbowl year 2 to start his career..
If some of you bandwagoneers would actually do research you wouldn't look so stupid..

How does that change anything I've said?

Don't bother replying... it doesn't.

And I don't need to do the research, I'm actually old enough to remember it.

Dammit frash... well said, think that's the most I've heard you say, even collectively.... but I have to disagree...... there's 3 Dodges in my driveway, and I don't think VaBeach even has a section8 section............

Yeah there is nothing in my statement that is wrong.

"Gman accomplished in 4 years everything Hurney did in 12 years"
Beside the fact Hurney actually did it in 2 years than..
The whole statement is wrong and dumb..
Not to mention Gman kinda did it with alot of Hurney's player..

But before you go on with your dumbshit.. I'm not a Hurney or Gman guy.. I'm a panther fan that likes to live in facts..
